Allen Fire Department - 1953 - 02/18A meeting was called at Allen School Building, Feb 18, 1953 for the purpose of organizing a volunteer
Fire Department. There were twenty six present. A.C. Story was elected temporary chairman. Mr. Story introduced Mr. Garrett from Plano
to explain and instruct in the installation of officers. John D. Holt and A.J. Carpenter were nominated as candidates for Chief. John D. Holt
was elected by a majority vote.
Fred Day and A.J. Carpenter were nominated as candidates for Asst. Chief. The vote was tied at 13 all and by a decision of Mr. Garrett,
Fred Day was elected.
Mr. Carpenter and Mr. Cundiff were nominated as candidates for Capt. Mr. Carpenter was elected.
Henry Cundiff & Ed Erickson were nominated as candidates for Lieut. Mr. Cundiff was elected.
Mr. Story, Winfred Leach, A. Barrett and V. B. Watson were nominated as
candidates for Sec. Treas. Mr. Story received 9 votes, Leach 2, Barrett 4, Watson 8. In the runoff, Mr. Watson
was elected by a vote of 16 to 10. Any one desiring to go were invited to Plano fire drills on 1st Tuesday and
3rd Thursday of each month by Mr. Garrett.
Winfried Leach, Pete Ford, J.L. Augel and Ed Erickson were nominated as candate for Instructor
