Min - Animal Shelter Advisory Committee - 2018 - 07/18 - Regular ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING JULY 18,2018 Present: Sheila Brauning, Secretary Dr. Alan Coffman Matt McGee,Chair Deborah Michnick,Animal Control Supervisor Absent: Kathryn May,Vice Chair Robin Sedlacek,City Council Liaison Call to Order With a quorum of the Board members present,the Regular Meeting of the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee was called to order by Chair McGee at 7:06 p.m.on Wednesday July 18,2018,in the Animal Shelter Conference Room, Allen Animal Shelter, 707 S. Allen Heights Drive,Allen,Texas 75002. 1. Approve Minutes from the March 21,2018,Regular Meeting. The minutes were approved by the acclamation of the board. 2. Introduce new Animal Control Officers,Justin Sanders and Rita Huang. With the addition of these two new officers the shelter is fully staffed. 3. Introduce Work-Based Learning Program with Allen ISD. This program involves taking high functioning students with mental disabilities and hiring them as part- time employees of the shelter. Program begins when school starts in August with classroom studies and students will then begin working at the shelter on September 10,2018. 4. Update on Adoptable Kennel Floor Replacement and Dog Isolation Remodel. On Monday,August 20, 2018 the floors will begin being replaced in the Adoptable Kennel area. In addition,the Isolation Room will be gutted with new flooring installed and refitting the kennel doors to be flush to the floor. Remodeling will take approximately three weeks to one month to complete. 5. Update on new ILA(Interlocal Cooperation Agreement)for Animal Control Services. The ILA Agreement has been approved. This agreement will allow participating cities to work with each other in case of emergency situations. The current list of participating cities includes: Grand Prairie,Lewisville,Allen,Cleburne,Richland Hills,Balch Springs, Mesquite,Arlington,Richardson, Farmer's Branch, Plano, Desoto and Duncanville. Discuss and Make a Recommendation to the City Council regarding Proposed Revisions to the Chapter 3,Animals and Fowl,of the Code of Ordinances. During future meetings the Board will be looking at the following Ordinances to change or revise: On-line registration, mandatory micro chipping,wording on service dog registrations,Dogs in Vehicles, TNR(Trap Neuter Release)Program,Tethering and Dangerous and Vicious Dog wording. 7. Discuss Upcoming Events. [Board announcements regarding local civic and charitable events, meetings, fundraisers, and awards.] Adjournment MOTION: Upon a motion made by Chair McGee and a second by Dr. Coffman,the Board voted four(4)for and none(0)opposed to adjourn the Regular Meeting of the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee at 7:44 p.m. on Wednesday,July 18,2018.
