Min - City Council - 1960 - 06/23 - RegularRegular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Allen Allen, Texas June 23, 1960. Minutes read and passed to next meeting. Members present as follows: Mayor V.B. Watson, Alderman W.E. Ford, R.L. Cooksey, E.B. Young and Jack Hedgcoxe. Members absent Carl Marion. Discussion on how to conduct the Council Meetings. They should be more formal, with more of the discussions written into the minutes. The BUDGET for the year 1960-1961 was written out by Mayor Watson and approved by the Council as follows: Office Exp. $200.00 Salaries 1260.00 Legal Exp. 100.00 Fire Dept. 200.00 St. Lights 700.00 St. Repair 1867.00 Miscellaneous 300.00 Int. & sink fund 1525.00 Total $6152.00 Est Valuation / $621,000.00 @ $1.10 / 6,831.00 90% / $6,147.90 Motion by W.E. Ford and second by Jack Hedgcoxe that the tax rate remain at $1.10 rate for the calendar year 1960. Ayes (4) four / noes none. Discussion about what could be done with the City trash by Jack, if there was room on the City Property at the Sewer Pit. Each one was to try to locate a dump ground. Motion was made by Jack Hedgcoxe for the Mayor to appoint a committee to find a place for a City dumping ground / The Mayor and Alderman are all to work on this project. Discussion about the hiring or appointing a NIGHT WATCHMAN or CITY MARSHALL. (Tabled). Discussion on WATER SUPERINTENDENT: Weather or not it would be legal to hire Mr. Ereckson under the existing conditions, since Jack Hedgcoxe is related to Mr. Ereckson. Motion by R.L. Cooksey that there will not be any water meters set on Saturday or Sunday. Motion sec. by E.B. Young. Council vote (2) two for (R.L.C. and E.B.Y.) (2) two against (W.E.F and J.H.) Mayor V.B. Watson voted in favor of the motion. Which makes the Ayes (3) three noes (2) two. Motion to adjourn by E.B. Young sec. by W.E. Ford. Minutes read and approved this the 14 day of July 1960
