Min - Arts Alliance - 2001 - 05/08 - RegularMINUTES ALLEN ARTS ALLIANCE BOARD REGULAR CALLED MEETING MAY 8, 2001 AAAB MEMBERS PRESENT Evelyn Dawson, Chair Debra Sielert, Vice -Chair Lauren Jones, Secretary Joel Cantwell Lisa Enrich Cynthia Kaleta Members Absent Joyce Richards Guests Present William Dillard Staff Present Don Horton, Director of Parks and Recreation Larry Kirk, Recreations Service Manager Lisa Anderson, Special Activities Coordinator Tina Daniels, Cultural Ails Specialist 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair, Evelyn Dawson called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m. 2. CITIZENS COMMENTS There were no citizens present wishing to speak at this time. 3. APPROVED MINUTES FROM THE April 3, 2001 Regular Called Meeting. Motion: Lisa Ellrich moved to accept the Minutes from April 2, 2001 Regular Called Meeting as presented. Cindy Kaleta seconded and the motioned carried 6 for 0 against. 4. ART GUILD Bill Dillard discussed ideas about the Build meeting scheduled for Mid -June. Bill Dillard asked everyone to give him potential guild member's names. Evelyn Dawson suggested Susan Bernard. Evelyn said she had spoke to the mayor and he was interested in attending. 5. PARK BOARD MEETING Lisa Ellrich reported on the meeting she attended with Don Horton and Him Walbauer. Lisa Ellrich said that park Board could help the AAAB now and not only be a funding arm. Evelyn asked Lisa to find out what the Park Board's time frame was for taking suggestions for projects. Also, Evelyn asked about current projects that the Park Board is pursuing. 6. ART IN PUBLIC PLACES It was suggested that this committee get several quotes for frames for the renderings that Robin Frye is creating. Evelyn also reminded everyone that all AAAB money must be spent by October. Evelyn suggested a statue for the new library. Evelyn suggested T-shirts for board members for Summer Sounds Concerts. Lisa Ellrich suggested a large sign as a backdrop to Summer Sounds. 7. LIBRARY BOARD Proforma is the architecture firm that was selected to construct the new library and auditorium. Evelyn suggested that all board members come up with dreams and ideas for the new library. 8. ALLEN USA/ART FEST Lisa Anderson gave an update on Allen USA. The entertainment for the evening will be Mirror Image, The Parish Family and Vince Vance and the Valiants. Lisa Anderson gave a brief time frame of the day's events. They are as follows: 10:00-11.30 Kiawana's Parade 12:00 Gates Open 12:00-5.00 Children's Art Tent 12:00-7:00 Games for children Lisa Anderson added that here are several good concessions, some types of foods that are included are funnel cakes, lemonade and hot dogs. There are many more that plan to attend. Richard Payne from Ford Middle School wants to host "the largest human hand flag". His goal is to charge people to add their handprints to a flag and to beat the current world record. 9. AD HOC COMMITTEE UPDATES ARTS ALLIANCE/SCHOOL LIAISON ---Lauren Jones and Cindy Kaleta Lauren Jones said that she needed a theme for the poster contest and for Allen USA. The group decided that the theme be "Imagine Station", "All Aboard for Art". Lauren wants to get a flyer out to the schools before the end of the school year. Tina Daniels will fax the school district and ask them for permission to pass out flyers to all students. ART IN PUBILC PLACES ---Deb Sielert and Joel Cantwell Don reported that he met with Robin Frye and the renderings that he will do are less expensive than the board had thought. Robin Frye will begin these renderings as soon as possible.
