Min - Arts Alliance - 2001 - 12/03 - RegularMINUTES j ALLEN ARTS ALLIANCE REGULAR CALLED BOARD MEETING MONDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2001 305 CENTURY PLAZA ALLEN, TEXAS 75013 PRESENT BOARD MEMBERS LISA ELLRICH, CHAIRPERSON DEB SIELERT, VICE CHAIR JENNIFER KISER EVELYN DAWSON LAURENJONES STAFF PRESENT DON HORTON, DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION LARRY KIRK, RECREATIONS SERVICES MANAGER UAY NKELE, CONSTRUCTION MAMAGER LISA ANDERSON, SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATOR TINA DANIELS, CULTURAL ARTS SPECIALIST MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER AT 6:08 BY LISA ELLRICH, CHAIRPERSON. Jennifer Kiser moved to accept the minutes from the November 6, 2001 meeting. Deb Sielert seconded the motion to accept the minutes. There were no citizens' comments at this time. Kathy Guttierrez from the Allen Civic Choir made a presentation to the board and asks for three thousand dollars for money to support the Civic Choir. The choir is preparing for a June 29, 2001 concert and would like this money to buy music. Mrs. Guttierrez also said that the Civic Choir was a part of the Allen Symphony Orchestra. Ijay Nkele, Construction Manager Presented to the board renderings of the new Heritage Center that will be located on Ash and Belmont. Mrs. Nkele also said that the Library Review Committee would be presenting the new library plan to the city counsel on December 20, 2001. Trudy Israel, Arts Alliance Guild representative presented "Art to Go" program. Art to Go is an in -school art program where Allen Arts Alliance Guild members will discuss selected portfolios with elementary school students. Mrs. Israel has presented to several Allen ISD principals and has received favorable response. She would like for the board to support this project both with volunteers and with financial support. Art to Go can be i�f1 implemented for $6900.00 initially and for only a few hundred dollars each year to add more portfolios. The entire completed program would cost the board approximately $24,300.00 through 2008 after 2008 there would be minimum expense for upkeep. Danna Flemons presented a proposed plan for "Art mania" for 2002. She would like for Allen Arts Alliance, Allen Art Guild and Allen Independent School District to work together to create an ArtMania for the children of Allen. She proposed several dates in February and March for this program. Ethics Guild lines and Code of Conduct was given to each board member Area fifth graders will compete in a contest, "Trees Are Neat Inside and Out". The city's Urban Forrester asks that an Art Board member assist with thejudging. The contest will be in February. The Allen Arts Alliance Guild will meet Tuesday, January 8`h at 7:00 p.m. in council chambers. Bill Dillard said that an update from each committee would be a part of the agenda as well as presenting each member with policy and procedures for the Guild. Ad Hoc Committee Update "Heart for Art" School Liaison, Lauren Jones suggested that we have a "Heart for Art" art drive in February. Each elementary will have a drive for their school to make the students more aware of art and to stock the supplies. Mrs. Jones suggested that the Art Board representatives contact area businesses for their financial support too. Suggestions to Guild. Lauren Jones suggested that the Guild have a "Cultural Person". This person would encourage that all races be represented within the art in Allen. Five Year Plan. Don Horton suggested that the board revisit their five-year plan. The board will need to update the plan as well as implement programs or procedures to reach goals. Sunday Sounds. Tina Daniels reported that attendance has grown at Sunday Sounds concerts but it still has a lot of room for growth. December 16, Cindy Horstman, jazz harpist will be the performer.
