Present Committee Members: Denise Gilbert, Chair Emile Carriere Ann Carroll Jane Bennett Susan Barry Steve Benson City Staff: Lori Smeby, Assistant Director, Parks and Recreation Matt McComb, Landscape Architect, Parks and Recreation Jennifer Robinson, Senior Administrative Assistant, Parks and Recreation Members Absent: Matthew Grant Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present With a quorum of the committee members present, the regular meeting of the Public Art Committee was called to order by Chair Gilbert at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, February, 2013 in the Parks and Recreation Conference Room at 305 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas. Approve minutes from the February 19, 2013 Regular Meeting. MOTION: Upon a motion made by committee member Carnere and seconded by committee member Bennett, the committee voted six (6) for and none (0) opposed to accept minutes from the February, 2013 regular meeting as presented. Future Meeting Time Consideration After discussion the following motion was presented. MOTION: Upon a motion made by committee member Bennett and seconded by committee member Barry, the committee voted six (6) for and none (0) opposed to move the Public Art Committee meeting time from 6:30pm to 6:OOpm. Discussion Items 3. Current Project Updates Matt McComb, Landscape Architect, Parks and Recreation updated the committee that he met with the Forestry and Irrigation crews regarding fixing the fountain and lighting at the future PUBLIC ART COMMITTE REGULAR MEETING March 19, 2013 CHAC location and will be putting a quote out soon for the construction of the base. He then shared with the committee the Cottonwood Trail Plan that was requested at the last meeting. Also it was reported that the "Out of the Park" statue repairs have been completed and it has been reinstalled as well as additional lighting has been added to the "A is for Allen" piece. Mr. McComb also shared a photo of Connor Walden's "Life" project and confirmed that placement would likely he this spring at the Blue House. 4. Future Projects Discussion Member Carriere shared with the committee photos of pieces from his recent trip to California, including temporary pieces on display in medians and several others from an art show he attended. Lori Smeby, Assistant Director, Parks and Recreation reminded the committee that additional funding of approximately $300,000 may be a possibility in June. After much discussion the committee compiled a list of potential short term options for future projects including City facilities (specifically Joe Farmer Recreation Center and the Edge Visitors Center), the golf course, bridges/entry pieces, interactive play sculptures, site furnishings, and traitheads/trail markers, with the first four having priority For long term projects, the committee would like to consider Watters Branch Park, a City sign at McDermott and temporary an bases. Mr. McComb will contact the design firm that is handling Watters Branch Park to ask for their recommendation on the timing of including an artist in the project and also the bridge manufacturer for the Cottonwood Trail to determine the feasibility of an artist involvement in that project. Mrs. Smeby will contact other cities regarding their previous experience with artist involvement with bridges. 5. Items of Interest a. Items for Future Agendas I Project Update 2.
