Min - City Council - 1964 - 04/09 - Regular REGULAR MEETING THE TOWN COUNCIL, TOWN OF ALLEN, TEXAS April 9th, 1964 Members present as follows ; Mayor Gentry T. Jones . Aldermen : Phil Pringle, R. B. Whisenant, B. J. Enloe and C. E. Ottaway. Members Absent ; F. Dean Sears Order declaring result of City Officers Election was read and ap- proved and new Councilmen Jimmy Gantt and R. B. Whisenant and Mayor Gentry T. Jones were sworn in. Policeman, James Loven was present at this meeting to discuss police work and hours for Mr. Foster. Motion made by C. E. Ottaway-That Mr. Loven adjust Mr. Foster 's hours so that the city would be protected approximately 10 hours per night. Seconded by B. J. Enloe. Motion Passed-Ayes 5 / Noes none . Motion made by Phil Pringle-To pay current bills. Seconded by C. E. Ottaway. Motion Passed-Ayes 5/ Noes none. Mayor Jones read the letter from the owner of Tract #2, as set out in the Adams & Armstrong Survey, pertaining to the purchasing of this tract of land . Our City Attorney, Alex Orr, recommended that we answer Mr. Moulden's letter requesting price on entire tract. Motion by Phil Pringle-That Attorney Orr answer this letter. Seconded by C . E. Ottaway. Motion passed-Ayes 5/ Noes none. The Mayor presented Ordinance controlling Soliciting from door to door for the City of Allen. Motion by C. E. Ottaway-That the Ordinance be passed on first reading , Seconded by R. B. Whisenant. Motion Passed--Ayes 5/Noes none. The Mayor presented a program to be carried out over the next 2 year period. First, that the Council consider purchasing a new fire truck or one capable of producing the effectiveness that would cut the rate of insurance and give added fire protection for the citizens of Allen. Secondly, that they take under consideration the purchase of a new tractor equipped with a trencher and grader, This equip- ment to be used for laying of sewer lines, water lines and etc. Also a durrp truck-not a new one but a good second-hand truck that could be used for hauling rock, gravel, trash and general street improve- ment work, The Mayor also, requested a master plan of street improve- ment that could be completed within the next 2 .years and appointed the following committee for that job. Phil Pringle, Chairman and R.B. Whisenant and Jimmy Gantt. Committee to-check into the purchase of the above equipment . Chairman-R. B. Whisenant, Billy J. Enloe and C . E. Ottaway. B. J. Enloe suggested that all councilmen be on the lookout for this type of equipment and report back to the City Council. The Mayor also requested that a review of the fire plugs be checked into and the need for such plugs to be reported to the Council at the next regular meeting.
