WORKSHOP SESSION - 10:00 A.M.
With the above members present, the sixth monthly meeting of the Keep Allen Beautiful Staff
Committee was called to order. Edie McMillion, had each attendee introduce themselves. Edie started
with announcing the fust meeting of the Keep Allen Beautiful Board which will be held on Monday.
July 28. 1997. at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Library. Edie invited anyone on the
committee to attend this meeting to meet the board if they want to. Edie also advised the committee that
Sherry Johnson one of the original board members was being transferred out of state and was being
replaced by Beverly Wortham. Edie updated the committee on our trash contractor C W D she said that
residential calls were down, but still getting calls and having some problems with many commercial
accounts.
Bobby Trevino gave an update on our trees from the National Tree Trust. Bobby said that the trees are
doing well, some are suffering from heat stress. They do have someone watering them in the morning
every day and this is helping a great deal. Bobby also gave us an overview of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter -Day Saints community work service day on July 19, 1997 Over 200 people
participated in the days events, which included park's playground equipment getting stained and
painted, plus playground areas got new gravel added to them. It was a huge success and Bobby
encouraged the committee to contact them when we need help on other activities. Bobby also gave
more insight into the possibility of having a Flower Festival and the Adopt -A -Spots program for flower
boxes.
Edie talked about the compost facility that will be at the old animal shelter on Jupiter, we need to make
it user friendly and attractive to help prevent any illegal dumping. Anyone with ideas needs to bring
them to the next meeting. Bobby said he and Tim Dentler could do some landscape drawings once they
have our input. Slogan update mentioned, will also talk to the new Board to see what ideas they might
have.
Next meeting will be held on Tues • August 19. 1997. at 9:00 A.M. in the Conference Room at
the Municipal Annex.
