Min - Animal Shelter Advisory Committee - 2006 - 02/15 - RegularCity of Allen Animal Shelter Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes, Wednesday February 15, 2006 The meeting was held at the Allen Police Training Room and convened at 7:02 p.m. Present at the meeting were members Lon Braselton, Dr. Mike Overton, Vikki Francis, Dr. Mike Overton and Bill Ameser. City Councilman Liaison Mark Pacheco was in attendance, Chairperson, Lon Braselton, called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. Approval of the Minutes from November 9, 2005 The minutes were approved by unanimous consent. Citizens Comments No citizens were present at the meeting. Council Liaison Mark Pacheco spoke to the committee to explain why the city council decided to have a liaison and how it would benefit the committee. Mr. Pacheco advised that he would be attending some of the meetings but he could be contacted for any council questions, He was there to keep the line of communication opened and help in any way he could Annual Report to City Council Vikki Francis advised Lon Braselton that the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee Chairman will make a presentation to the City Council on March 14, 2006. The presentation will include everything the committee has done in the past year. The presentation should he no longer then three (3) minutes and 1 Vikki Francis will do a power point slide show and get it to Lon to view before the council meeting. The chairman will need to be at the pre -council meeting at 6:OOpm (dinner will be served) to speak and do the slide presentation at 7pm for the council to see. Animal is Disaster Dr. Diann Smith, DVM from Animal Hospital of Collin County spoke to the committee about the need to have a animal disaster plan in the works. Dr Smith attended a seminar on disaster preparedness and planning guidelines and offered the manual to the committee. Vikki Francis took the manual and advised the committee she would make copies for each member. Items to consider for disaster plan: -County wide program -Have Veterinarians and Clinics outside local area to assist -Check on liability for volunteers -Release forms, training for staff & volunteers -Identification for animals & volunteers -Cost for medical supplies & boarding -Microchipping of animals -Breed specific groups -Rescue groups Lon Braselton asked committee if they were interested in helping get disaster information and starting 1 to organize items for disaster plan. All committee members were in favor of getting started on disaster plan for the Anima) Shelter. Items of Interest Discussion of the long range plans (space) for the Animal Shelter. Vikki Francis advised the committee that the expansion/new building was going to the CTP committee. After all the meetings of the committee they would make a recommendation to the City Council. This would be done in June 2006 council meeting. Next Meetine/Adiourn The next meeting was set for June 14, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the Police Training Room.
