Min - Animal Shelter Advisory Committee - 2012 - 05/16 - RegularCity of Allen Animal Shelter Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes- Wednesday, May 16, 2012 The meeting was held at the Allen Animal Shelter and convened at 7:00 p.m. Present at the meeting were members Dr. Alan Coffman, Dawn Blue, Justin Schiffner and Vikki Francis. New committee member had not been approved by City Council yet. Chairperson, Dawn Blue, called the meeting to order at 7:11 p.m. Approval of the Minutes from March 21, 2012 The minutes were approved by unanimous consent. Council Liaison None were present from the meeting Spay/Neuter Equipment-Proeress Vikki Francis advised she had met with TCAP along with D.C. Flores, Lt. Deggs and it had been decided to bring them in to do the spay/neuters for the adoptable animals until the money could be found to purchase all need equipment. TCAP would also do vaccinations for the adoptable animals and they was going to be a low cost vaccination clinic at the shelter on Saturday, June 23, 2012. Dr. Coffman advised he would have Tyler help us connect with their representative from Butler to get costs on the oxygen concentrator and the wet table. Heartworm and Feline Leukemia testing were brought up again and Dr. Coffman explained the importance of testing dogs and cats before they go up for adoption so it would make it easier on the family adopting knowing if the animals were positive or not. Dr. Coffman recommended doing the Feline Leukemia and the HIV testing on cats and advised the cost was minimal and he would sell the testing kits to the shelter at cost. Discussion At last meeting Dawn Blue inquired about the committee doing some type of fundraising to help detour the costs for the testing and any equipment. Vikki Francis advised per the City Secretary that in reviewing the ordinance establishing the board, there are no provisions for fundraising. The ordnance outlines the purpose as "An Animal Shelter Advisory Committee is hereby created to assist the city and its animal control unit in compliance with state regulations concerning the operation of animal shelters. The committee shall be advisory in nature and shall not have any responsibility or authority over any board, commission, public official or employee of the city " Therefore, the board should not organize or serve in a fundraising capacity Items of Interest New committee member had not been approved by City Council yet. It will go in front of the Council on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. Next Meeting/Adiourn The next meeting was set for August 29, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Allen Animal Shelter.
