Min - Animal Shelter Advisory Committee - 2012 - 08/29 - RegularCity of Allen Animal Shelter Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes- Wednesday, August 29, 2012 The meeting was held at the Allen Animal Shelter and convened at 7:01 p.m. Present at the meeting were members Dr. Alan Coffman, Dawn Blue, Justin Schiffner, Kathy May and Vikki Francis. New committee member had not been approved by City Council yet. Guest were Police Chief Brian Harvey, Lt. Richard Deggs and Dr. and Mrs. Larry Holly Chairperson, Dawn Blue, called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m Approval of the Minutes from March 21, 2012 The minutes were approved by unanimous consent. Council Liaison Gary Caplinger was present from the meeting. New Committee Member Kathy May was introduced to the committee and gave a brief background about herself The other committee members introduce themselves and welcome her on board. Meeting with Allen Vets Vikki Francis gave an update to the committee on the meeting with the vets and advised that they all were on board in one capacity or another to help the adoptable animals get spayed/neutered and vaccinated before they are adopted. The Vets had recommended the city use Relief Vets once the equipment has been bought Dr. Coffman stated that some of the Associates with the vet clinics may also be interested. Vikki Francis had sent an equipment list (what the needs were) to all the vets and had received 3 responses back. With those 3 the city is looking at the total cost of equipment. Vikki Francis advised that Dr. Hefner with Allen Animal Clinic had donated 100 heartworm tests so that all adoptable dogs would be tested before being adopted to give them a better chance of adoption. Vikki Francis advised that she was looking into the costs for feline leukemia/HIV testing for cats. Dr. Coffman stated that he would donate test to us but need to get with his Office Manger to see which would be the best, donating the tests or donating a check. Spay/Neuter Equipment -Progress Vikki Francis advised that she is working on the list of equipment need and has set up two (2) accounts with suppliers. Chief Harvey advised that the city is trying to get the needed equipment but the budget has a big impact on what can be bought at this time. Items of Interest Vikki Francis stated that the shelter had done an offsite adoption at Cabela's and it was a big success. Six (6) dogs were taken and three (3) of the dogs were adopted. Vikki Francis also advised the committee that there was the Education Expo coming up September 20 and the shelter participates to that as well as the Texas Recycle Day, November 3. Next Meeting/Adjourn The next meeting is set for October 17, 2012 at 7:00 p.m at the Allen Animal Shelter. Dawn Blue adjourns the meeting at 8:30 p.m. Vikki Francis, Secretary Sept.S, 2012
