Meeting Minutes- Tuesday, August 6, 2013
1 The meeting was held at the Allen Animal Shelter and convened at 7-16 p.m. Present at the meeting
were members Dr. Alan Coffman, Dawn Blue, Justin Schiffner, Kathryn May, and Allison Harper.
Chairperson, Dawn Blue, called the meeting to order at 7.16 p.m.
Approval of the Minutes from April 1, 2013 and June 24,2013
The minutes from the April 1, 2013 and June 24, 2013 were approved by Dawn Blue and Justin
Schiffner.
Spay/Neuter Program -Progress
Dr. Coffman spoke with area veterinarians to get their thoughts on the shelter's spay/neuter program.
He indicated the main concern from the area vets was that they might become inundated with animals
to spay or neuter from the shelter. Dr. Coffman did explain that we are a very small shelter, so we
would not over -burden the vets with animals. To ease this concern we agreed that the vets could limit
the number of surgeries they do each month.
The group agreed that $90 for the adoption fee was reasonable, and this price would include the rabies
vaccination. The group also agreed that the city registration tag could be taken to the vet with the
animal, and given to the pet owner when they pick the animal up from the vet.
Dr. Coffman suggested that we find out the surgery days and times of the participating vets, and ask
the vets if they are comfortable performing spay/neuter surgeries on pets less than 6 months of age.
Briefing
Allison Harper filled the group in on the possibility of working with the Allen Americans on a dog
adoption event during one of the hockey games. Justin Schiffner and Dawn Blue expressed interest in
volunteering during this event.
Justin Schiffner indicated he would follow up with Gary Caplinger about signage for the shelter.

The next meeting time and date is to be determined. Dawn Blue adjourns the meeting at 8:33 p.m.
