Meeting Minutes- Monday, June 24, 2013
The meeting was held at the Allen Police Department and convened at 7:10 p.m. Present at the meeting
were members Dr. Alan Coffman, Dawn Blue, Justin Schiffner, Kathryn May, and Allison Harper.
Deputy Chief Johnny Thomason attended as a guest.
Chairperson, Dawn Blue, called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
Approval of the Minutes from April 1, 2013
The minutes from the April 1, 2013 meeting will be approved at the August 6, 2013 meeting.
Council Liaison
Gary Caplinger was present for the meeting.
Spay/Neuter Program -Progress
DC Thomason went over the adoption rates of other cities that are close to Allen. Garland, Plano, and
Sachse charge $80 which includes the spay/neuter surgery and rabies vaccination. The group felt that
the $80-$90 range was an acceptable adoption fee. The group also agreed that it would be best to
allow the adopter to choose a vet from the list of participating vets to do the spay/neuter surgery
Dr. Coffman agreed to speak with local veterinarians to ask about their participation in the spay/neuter
program. DC Thomason will check with the city's legal department about the possible need for a
surgical release.
1 Board Evaluation Form
All members participated in answering the questions on the Board Evaluation Form.
Items of Interest
DC Thomason spoke about the possibility of city registration tags being available online in the future.
Dawn suggested that the group look into the possibility of better signage for the shelter. The group
agreed that the shelter is in need of better signage as many people are not aware that there is a shelter
in Allen. Gary is going to look into requirements for signage on city buildings.

The next meeting has been scheduled for Monday August 6, 2013. Dawn Blue adjourns the meeting at
8:33 p in.
