Min - Library Board - 1995 - 01/10 - RegularMINUTES ALLEN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD JANUARY 10, 1995 ALLEN PUBLIC LIBRARY TWO ALLEN CIVIC PLAZA ALLEN, TX 75002 1. The regular meeting of the APL Board was called to order at 7:33 pm by Bob Flood. New members Fritz Dietrich, Eric Liepens and Julie Wilmoth were introduced. Other members present were Betty Matthews, Mary Walker and Barbara Buehler. Guests were Elizabeth Cmbb and Dale Fleeger. II. The minutes from the Nov 1994 meeting were reviewed. A motion was made by Betty Matthews and seconded by Julie Wilmoth for approval Ili. Election of officers was held: - Betty Matthews was nominated for Chairman by Bob Flood, seconded by Julie Wilmoth; unanimous approval. - Bob Flood was nominated for Vice -Chairman by Eric Liepens, seconded by Mary Walker; unanimous approval. - Julie Wilmoth was nominated for Secretary by Betty Matthews, seconded by Bob Flood; unanimous approval. IV The Library Ordinance was read by newly elected Secretary, Julie Wilmoth. V The Program, "Role of a Library Board Member" was presented by Elizabeth Crabb, NETLS Coordinator. Ms. Crab gave a detailed explanation on the varied responsibilities of a Board Member and the Advisory Board Handbook, reviewed comparisons of other NETLS libraries with comparable city populations, discussed NETLS role and how it affects our library and our Board. Ms. Crabb also introduced Dale Fleeger, who will be the new NETLS Coordinator. V1. Barbara Buehler passed out NETLS calendars and bookmarks, TLA forms for all Board Members to fill out. The TLA Legislative Day will be held on Feb. 15, 1995 in Austin. The TLA Annual Conference will be held in Dallas on April 4-8, 1995 at the Dallas Convention Center. April 5 is Friends & Trustees Day. One in-service day was held in Dec. Friends of the Library funded Sharon Carr to speak for 'h day. Sgt Tim Dorsey from the police dept. spoke on personal safety. An orientation for new staff members was developed. The 'h cent sales tax request vote will be Jan. 21, 1995. Early voting is going on now. VII. Suggestion Box items included a request for the New Yorker magazine; the need for a "quiet room" away from noisy children; a request for more children's magazines; a request to go hack to the card catalog system. The statistical report shows a 16% increase in circulation for Dec. 94 over Dec. 93. VILL There will be a Friends program on Jan. 22, 1995 at 3:00 pm. The program is called "Mostly Mozart" and will feature Renaissance Minstrels, a musical ensemble. IX. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:20 pm.
