1 Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum of Board Members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Board Chair Cindy Briggs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, in the Allen Public Library
Board Room, 300 North Allen Drive, Allen, Texas. She welcomed visitor Councilmember Joey Herald, who
is the Council liaison to the Library Board.
1. Nominate and Elect Officers for 2012-2013
Discussion about possible changes in officers. The consensus was to maintain the current slate of
officers.
MOTION: Upon a motion made by Carson Doss and seconded by Devita Widmer, the Board voted five
(5) and none (0) opposed to leave current roster of officers in place.
2. Approve Minutes of the August 7, 2012 Regular Meeting
MOTION: Upon a motion made by Carson Doss and seconded by Diane Knack, the Board voted five (5)
for and none (0) opposed to approve the August 7, 2012 minutes. The motion carried.
3. Discuss Board's 2011-2012 Accomplishments for Recognition at the Annual Board
1 Appreciation Dinner
This year's dinner is scheduled for December 14 at the Hilton Garden Inn. Board accomplishments
were discussed. The Library Director provided a draft list, and Devita Widmer suggested adding Joint

activities with the Friends of the Library and the Endowment Fund Board. The draft was approved
with the discussed additions
4. Review and Discuss July, August, September 2012 Library Statistics.
June was again the Library's busiest month for circulation with July second. July was the busiest
month for program attendance with June second.
Upward trends continue in:
• Items checked out
• Holds
• Reference requests
• Visitors
• Program attendance.
Other comments:
• The library's goal is for the percentage of usage growth to exceed the percentage of the City's
population growth.
• Children's books comprise approximately 55% of total circulation.
5. Review and Discuss FY 2012 Library Statistics and Activities
FY 2012 statistics were compared to FY 2011. Annual increases were noted in:
• Circulation
• Number of new titles added
• Program attendance
• Holds
• Reference requests
• Visitors.
6. Preview Planned 2012-2013 Library Programs
The second floor program room is being used for adult programs such as "Discover A Healthier
You," a fiber craft circle, book clubs, "Armchair Travelers," and "CHAT " The room is also
regularly used for teen programs.
7. Review Calendar Items.
• The library will be closed at 6 p.m. on November 21 and all day November 22-23.
• The library will be closed December 23-25.
• The library will be closed at 6 p.m. on December 31 and all day January 1.
• The next board meeting will be February 5, 2013

MOTION: Upon a motion made by Carson Doss and seconded by Diane Knaack, the Board voted five
(5) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the board meeting at 7.31 p.m.
