Min - City Council - 1965 - 05/20 - RegularREGULAR MEETING CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF ALIEN, TEXAS May 20, 1965 Present : Mayor Gentry T. Jones Aldermen: Jimmy Gantt, Dan Strong and Ken Posey. Absent: R. B. Whisenant and B. J. Enloe. Meeting called to order immediately following adjornment of Equalization Board meeting. Minutes of former meeting read and approved by Council. Four water tie-ins were found by the contractor, who is laying the 8" water main, that were not included in the original contract. Motion by Dan Strong that these tie-ins be made and any other tie-ins that might show up while laying this line. Seconded by Jimmy Gantt. Motion passed--Ayes 3, Noes none. Motion by Jimmy Gantt to send Mrs. Clay letter concerning fence which it now in easement. Seconded by Dan Strong. Motion passed- Ayes 3, noes none. Motion was made by Jimmy Gantt to place an ad in the Dallas newspaper for a City policeman. Mayor Gentry T. Jones to hire policeman with the approval of the City Council. Ad to read as follows: The City of Allen, Allen, Texas located on Highway 75 between Plano and McKinney, with population of approximately 1500 citizens, is in need of a night watchman of the retired age, that has had past experience in the law enforcement field. The City Council has agreed to pay $100. per month salary plus $100. per month expenses. If interested write to P.O. Box 187, Allen, Texas or appear in person at the City Hall. Motion made by Jimmy Gantt for the City Secretary to write to Alfred Anderson stating that the Council feel that he is too young for the job of night watchman. Seconded by Ken Posey. Motion passed--Ayes 3, noes none. Motion made by Dan Strong that we transfer $5500. from the Revenue Fund to the General Fund . Seconded by Jimmy Gantt. Motion passed-- Ayes 3, noes none. Motion made by Jimmy Gantt to pay bills presented by City Secretary. Seconded by Dan Strong. Motion passed--Ayes 3, noes none. Motion made by Ken Posey for the Secretary to write letters of any changes in valuation since the meeting of the School or City Equalization Board Meetings. Seconded by Dan Strong. Motion passed--Ayes 3, noes none. Jimmy Gantt was elected Mayor-ProTem by vote of proclamation. These minutes read and approved this the 4 day of June 1965.
