Call to Order and Announce a Our rum is Present
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Board Chair, Jo Long, at 7:34 p.m. on Tuesday. May 1, 2007 in the Board Room of the Allen Public
Library, 300 North Allen Drive, Allen, Texas.

There were no Citizen Comments.
2. Approve Minutes of the May 1, 2007, Regular Meeting.
Motion: Upon A motion made by Board Member, Mary Jane Hamilton, and a second by Board
Member, Donna Drews Vanous, the Board voted (7) for and none (0) opposed to approve the May 1,
2001 Library Board minutes with corrections.
3. Review Monthly Statistics and Suggestion Forms.
The Library Board reviewed the Monthly Statistics and read all of the Suggestion Forms.

4. Planning for 401h Anniversary.

The library board discussed various programs and activities for the 401h anniversary of the library in
October. The first Saturday we are doing the Birthday Party, with clowns and also a program with Dr.
Lincecum on "How to tell your Family Story" The Allen Garden Club is doing a plant exchange on
the 2id Saturday. We may also try to get some master gardeners to participate that day also.
Barbara is going to contact Tony Prichard in Lions Club to see what they would like to do. We will try
to get John Ereckson, author of "Hank the Cow Dog" Some other authors to try would be Carlton
Stowers, Jane Roberts Woods. Kathy Latins may do a Broadway Musical. We could also ask Plano
to do a cultural performance and consider others such as Hispanic, Asian, Chinese or Indian.
On Tuesday nights we could do movies from the 60's that were Academy Nominees. The five that we
could do would be:
1. The Graduate
2. Dirty Dozen
3. Bonnie and Clyde
4. Jungle Book
5. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
Some other suggestions were to do a Library Exhibit game and/or a mystery authors such as Crombie.
We would also like to get a big name speaker and some of those considerations would be Laura Bush,
Barbara Bush, Darrell Johnston, Dolly Parton and Troy Aikman.
5. Items of Interest.
Library Director, Barbara Buehler gave Jo Long a letter to read to the board from AARP on the free tax
help they do every year at the library for senior citizens and/or anyone else that requests their help.
They continue every year to increase the amount of tax preparations they do for citizens in our area.
Sponsored by The Friends of the Library, the Allen Reads Committee has chosen a book for the
community to read. The book is Marley and Me.
Board member, Ruth Pringle reported on the status of the Endowment Board. So far they have
recruited 4 citizens of Allen to agree to be on the Endowment Board. They are: Joe Farmer, Gayle
Boon, Hugh Brown, and George Chnsman.
They are also talking to John Rapier, John Connolly, Dr. Gough, and a few others add to serve on the
Endowment Board.
Calvin Spann a Tuskegee Airman is doing a program for the library in May.

Motion: Upon A motion made by Board Member, Susan McDaniel, and a second by Board Member,
Donna Drews Vanous, the Board voted (7) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the library board
meeting at 9:00 PM.
