Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Special Called Meeting of the Allen Public Library was
called to order by Vice -Chair, Donald Wing, at 7:35 p.m. on Tuesday September 18, 2007 in the Civic
Auditorium of the Allen Public Library, 300 North Allen Drive, Allen, Texas.

2. Approve Minutes of the August 7, 2007, Special Called Meeting.
Motion: Upon A motion made by Board Member, Mary Jane Hamilton, and a second by Board
Member, Susan McDaniel, the Board voted (4) for and none (0) opposed to approve the August 7, 2007
Library Board minutes.
3. Review Monthly Statistics and Suggestion Forms.
The Library Board reviewed the Monthly Statistics and read all of the Suggestion Forms.

1 4. Brainstorm Regarding Library 406 Anniversary Plans.
The board finalized the library's 406 anniversary calendar The guest speaker will be Mary Suhm, the
Dallas City Manager, who was a librarian at the Allen Public Library at one time. The kick-off for the
406 anniversary on October 6, 2007 was discussed in detail. The agenda for that day is:
a. In Long will be the Master of Ceremonies.
b. Introduction and announce guest speaker. Mary Suhm will speak about 15-20 minutes maybe
on her experiences she had here at the Allen Public Library and how she sees the public
libraries evolving in the 206 century.
c. Donna Drews Vanous will announce the essay winners and present book gift cards for the
prizes.
d. Susan McDaniel will announce the Rotary Sunrise birthday contest winners for 1", 2"d and 3'd
place for best design and present book gift cards for the prizes. The board discussed
displaying the essays and card designs in the gallery display cases.
e. Dr. Joe Farmer will announce the formation of the Friends of the Library Endowment Fund and
explain what the fund is for and also tell who has agreed to be on the Endowment Fund Board.
As of right now the board consists of: Gayle Boon, Hugh Brown, Dwight Burns, George
Chrisman, Dr. Joe Farmer, Josie Price, Scott White and Melinda Mathews. The Advisory
Board consists of: Janie Grimes, Ross Obermeyer, Don Preston, Ruth Pringle, Bob Rothe and
Wilma Smith.
f The Friends of the Library will announce the ALLen Reads Book.
g. Birthday Cake Refreshments
h. David Chicken Program.
Items of Interest.
The Friends of the Library will oversee each main event at the library and will have at least one
member from the Library Board present and/or one of the Friends of the Library Jane Bennett will
make calls to remind each person that agreed to be present at the events.
The Friends of the Library want to do an AD thanking all of the organizations that participated in the
Library's 406 Anniversary events.
Calendar:
• October 2, 2007 —Regular Library Board Meeting.
• October 6, 2007 — 406 Anniversary Kick -Off, 2 P.M.
