Call to Order and Announce a Ouorum is Present
With a quomm of the Board members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Board Chair, Donald Wing, at 7:26 p in on Tuesday November 6, 2007 in the Board Room of the
Allen Public Library, 300 North Allen Drive, Allen, Texas
Regular Aeenda
1. Citizen's Comments.
There were no Citizen Comments.
2. Approve Minutes of October 2, 2007 Regular Minutes.
Motion: Upon A motion made by Board Member, Mary Jane, and a second by Board Member, Julia
Elina, the Board voted (7) for and none (0) opposed to approve the October 2, regular minutes.
3. Review Monthly Statistics and Suggestion Forms.
The Library Board reviewed the Monthly Statistics and read all of the Suggestion Forms.

4. NETLS Updates.

The Northeast Texas Library Systems geographic meeting was held in Sherman, Texas on November 5,
2007 There is no collection development money this year. Now everything will go through the state
for bids on all vendors. There will be more vendors this year The budget has been cut by 35% and
15% more for next year. It went from 1.4 million last to $863,00 for this year and $738,000 for nest
year. The film service is going away. Home school parents used the film services the most.
5. Evaluate Essay Contest.
The essay contest was successful The Neighbors printed all of the essays in the paper. Would like to
have had more entries. Might consider doing another contest. Could maybe piggyback on the Allen
REads program and do different topics. City Council liaison, Ross Obermeyer suggested doing another
contest and make it an event instead of combining it with another program.
6. Evaluate Anniversary Celebration.
The 401h Anniversary Celebration went very well and was successful The best film attendance was the
"Jungle Book" The Friends and the library should do an Ad thanking all the vendors and people that
participated to make this a huge success.
7. Update on Endowment Fund Status.
The Endowment Board had their first meeting and elected officers and worked on creating
a mission statement The bank account has been set up. The money that is left in the Acquisition Fund
that is to be transferred to the Endowment Fund will come before the City Council in December to
approve.
8. Items of Interest.
The Christmas Parade is coming up It will start at Cedar and St. Mary's intersection. The board needs
to be represented. Julia, In, Mary Jane and Susan said one of them would definitely be there.
9. Calendar.

• November 18, 2007 —Allen Philharmonic Orchestra will perform "Ragtime"
• December 3, 2007. Christmas Carols with Storytelling.
• No December Library Board Meeting.
Motion: Upon A motion made by Board Member, to Long, and a second by Board Member, Susan
McDaniel, the Board voted (7) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the library board meeting at 8:48
PM.
