Call to Order and Announce a Ouorum is Present
With a quomm of the Board members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Jo Long, Board Chair at 7:01 p.m. on Tuesday February 7, 2006, in the Board Room of the Allen
Public Library, 300 North Allen Drive, Allen, Texas.
Reeular Agenda
1, Citizen's Comments.
There were no Citizen Comments.
2. Approve Minutes of the January 3, 2006, Regular Meeting.
The Library Board approved the minutes of the January 3, 2006 regular meeting.
3. Review Monthly Activity Report and Suggestion Forms.
The Library Board reviewed the monthly statistics and activity report. Library Director, Barbara Buehler
shared staff reports from the Children's department, Adult Service's, and Support Services departments.

Suggestion forms included requests for warmer temperatures downstairs, specific books, movies, and a
tutoring program for kids.
4. Review New Program, C.H.A,T,
Discussion of this new program was tabled until the next library board meeting. However, the C.H.A.T
Program will help non-native English speakers converse in English.
5. Consider Community Survey Draft.
The library board made a few changes to the Community Survey and will now be submitted to the Pubic
Information Officer
6. Consider Two Proposals.
Pampered Chef made a proposal to offer a "Kids Can Cook" program to raise money for the library as well
as sell items for the operators. The library board rejected the proposal.
A proposal was made by an Allen resident to house original artwork on library premises in a special
building. The library board would prefer the artwork be displayed in a public building in Allen.
7. Update form NETLS.
Geographic meetings and budget information were discussed. The year 2007 is the last year the library will
receive money from the State Library fund to purchase library items. Funds will come from the Lone Star
Grant after year 2007
8. Other Business
March 6-10 is Public School Week. The Allen Public Library may have an activity and/or display on how
it works with the Public School system.

• Thursday, February 16, 2006 - Career Counseling Program in the auditorium.
• Tuesday, February 7, 2006 - Regular board meeting.
• Saturday, February 11, 2006 - Svetlana Streven Opera singer, 7 pm in the auditorium.
• Saturday, April 22, 2006. Poetry and music in library courtyard (weather permitting) 2-4pm.
The Library Board meeting adjourned at 8.55 P.M.
