Call to Order and Announce a Ouorum is Present
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Jo Long. Board Chair at 7:02 p.m. on Tuesday March 7, 2006, in the Board Room of the Allen Public
Library, 300 North Allen Drive, Allen, Texas.
1. Citizen's Comments.
There were no Citizen Comments.
2, Approve Minutes of the February 7, 2006, Regular Meeting.
The Library Board approved the minutes of the February 7, 2006 regular meeting.

1 3. Review Monthly Activity Report and Suggestion Forms.
The Library Board reviewed the monthly statistics and activity report. Suggestion forms included requests
For a visual warming for the middle post on the metal detector at the library entrance, keychain library cards
(considered), downloadable audio books, and specific DVD's.
4. Review New Program, C.H.A,T, (Conversational English for ESL Patrons).
Senior Librarian, Cindy DeBoer explained this new program to the library board. This program will help
non-native English speakers converse in English. It is a program that meets a community need for citizens
who speak English as a second language. This program is facilitated by volunteers and participants have
found that it helps them significantly with their conversational skills.
5. Consider Read -In Program.
A read aloud program is proposed for Hispanic Heritage Month (a weekend in October) to create awareness
about this culture by having authors read part of their work aloud for others to enjoy and discuss.
6. Consider Library Annual Report.
Library Board Chair, Jo Long will show a PowerPoint presentation to the City Council at their next
meeting on the past year's activities, programs, and new things at the library
7. Plan for Northeast Texas Library Systems Membership Meeting.
Library Director, Barbara Buehler and Board member, Ruth Pringle will attend this meeting in Mineola,
Texas on April 5. 2006.
8. Other Business
The board viewed library articles and other publicity in the City Newsletter and the Allen Image
Publication. The Board is investigating setting up a foundation to fund the library
