Call to Order and Announce a Ouorum is Present
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Donald Wing, Vice -Chair at 7:08 p.m. on Tuesday April 4, 2006, in the Board Room of the Allen
Public Library, 300 North Allen Drive, Allen, Texas.
Reeular Aeenda
1. Citizen's Comments.
There were no Citizen Comments.
2. Approve Minutes of the March 7, 2006, Regular Meeting.
The Library Board approved the minutes of the February 7, 2006 regular meeting.
3. Review Monthly Activity Report and Suggestion Forms.
The Library Board reviewed the monthly statistics and activity report. The head noted that the auditorium
Had been used often.

4, Net Library Presentation by Victoria Swadley.
Adult Services Manager, Victoria Swadley presented information on how to access and use Net Library
which has digital full text versions of books on computer. There are 28,000 available titles. Library
patrons must have an Allen or Plano library card to set up an account and E books can be accessed through
TexShare Database (Net Library) or through the library catalog.
5. Review Quarterly Library Acquisition Fund Balance.
The fund generated revenue the past year. The library board discussed the possibility of putting the money
into a foundation. The cities of Plano, Weatherford, Arlington, and Frisco have foundations specifically for
the library
6. Review of TexShare Databases.
Commercial databases were reviewed as were the cost ($1,697 annually) and value ($152,642 if licensed
individually) to the library and patrons.
7. Upcoming Programs.
A) Photography Exhibit, Friday, April 7, 2006 at 7 pm.
B) City Council Meeting Tuesday, April 11, 2006,
C) Monday, April 10, 2006, is the last day of AARP free tax return filing.
8. Items of Interest,
One Book One Community Program that is being done by McKinney in the month of April was reviewed.
They will celebrate the book "To Kill a Mockingbird" with a play, movie, book discussion groups, and
Lectures have been organized.

• Sunday, April 16, 2006, Library closed for Easter.
• Tuesday, April 25, 2006, Friends Sponsor Jazzy Night at the Library with the Allen Jazz Band.

• Tuesday, May 2, 2006, Library Board Meeting.
