Call to Order and Announce a Ouorum is Present
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Special Called Meeting of the Allen Public Library was
called to order by Cal Calvin, Board Chair at 7:30 p.m. on Monday April 04, 2005, in the Library Meeting
Room of the Allen Public Library, 300 North Allen Drive, Allen, Texas.
Items discussed in the preceding meeting workshop included:
• Review Monthly Activity Report and Suggestions Box Forms.
• Brainstorming with Facilitator Joyce Spizer.

The Board approved the minutes of March 01, 2005.

Review Monthly Activity Report and Suggestion Box Forms.

The board reviewed the Monthly Activity Report and Suggestion Box forms. The library is still
receiving complaints about the long distance from the parking lot to get in the library.
4. Brainstorming with Facilitator Joyce Spizer.
The Library Board brainstormed with facilitator Joyce Spizer regarding various fundraising activities
and different ways to bring more people into the library These included:
• A literacy Project.
Allen Reads event to involve the Community in a particular book.
A Book Fair Festival.
Adopt a Library Program.
Author Luncheon (someone cool and well known).
• Teen Writers Anthology
• A Specific Cause.
Other Business
Wilma Smith from the Friends of the Allen Public Library reported on upcoming sponsored events such
as the Howard Garrett Program and the Sabuda Exhibit.

Motion: Upon a motion made by Board member John Ross and a second by Board member Cal
Calvin, the Board voted (6) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the Board Meeting at 9:14.
