Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Cal Calvin, Board Chair at 7.45 p.m. on Tuesday May 3, 2005, in the Library Meeting Room of the
Allen Public Library, 300 North Allen Drive, Allen, Texas.
Regular Agenda
1. Citizen's Comments.
There were no Citizen Comments.
2. Approve Minutes of the April 4, 2005, Special Called Meeting.
3. Review Monthly Activity Report and Suggestion Box Forms.
The Board reviewed the Monthly Activity Report and read the Suggestion Box forms for May
El The Suggestion Forms continue to receive complaints about the length of the walk from the parking lot
to the door for seniors and handicapped patrons. This remains the library's biggest single complaint.

4. Review Quarterly Acquisition Fund Report.
The Board reviewed the quarterly Acquisition Report. Library Director, Barbara Buehler explained, it
is easier to put contributions into this fund for library acquisitions. Currently, the Friends of the Allen
Public Library are the library's largest contributor. The Board asked the question, "How do people
know they can donate to this fund?"
5. Consider Planning for Board Projects.
The Library Board wishes to establish a five-year plan and discussed brainstorming for objectives,
purposes, and what the Board hopes to accomplish. While the library has a Mission Statement, the
Library Board does not.
Motion: Upon A motion made by Board Member, John Ross, Jr., the Chairperson is to meet with the
Library Director to review possible facilitators and get the process started. Board Member, Ruth
Pringle, seconded and the board voted (6) for and none (0) opposed to pass the motion.
Possible dates for the session include Saturday, June 7, 2005 or July 5, 2005.
6. View Library Tour Video.
IViewing the Library Tour Video was tabled until a later date.
7. Other Business
The Board discussed library cards being issued to Texas residents only with identification and proof of
residency. The library had declined issuing library cards outside of Texas, such as Oklahoma residents.
