1. Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present.
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Workshop of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Call Calvin, Board Chair at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday August 27, 2005 in the Meeting Room of
The Allen Public Library, 300 North Allen Drive, Allen, Texas.
2. Brainstorming/Goal Setting with Facilitator Stacy Turek
Meeting Purpose
The purpose of the meeting was to establish the following for the Allen Public Library Board:
• Mission Statement
Strategic Goals
• Priority Objectives

Allen Library Board Mission Statement
The mission of the Allen Public Library Board shall be to identify the requirements of the Library to
meet community library needs and to use its influence to fulfill those needs.
Allen Library Board Strategic Goals
I Identify community library needs by obtaining staff reports, surveying the community to ascertain its
needs and reviewing citizen comment cards and convey those results to the City Council.
2. Involve the community with the library by implementing and continuing programs and services
which are identified and prioritized by the Allen Public Library Board.
3. Enhance the public relations program for the library
Allen Library Board Priority Objectives (Potential)
The Allen Public Library Board proposed numerous priority objectives: however, the Board opted to
Finalize their priority objectives once community needs have been ascertained.
Potential Objectives Include:
Create an adult literacy program
Align educational system with the library.
Speaker's Bureau
Improve the Library Board's visibility with the City Council and the community.
Assign a legislative committee to convey library needs to the State Legislature and the State
Library Commission and seek their support
Create a one book/one community program.
Create a lap program.
The Workshop adjourned at 12:00 P.M.
