Call to Order and Announce a Onorum is Present
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Julia Elmo, Vice Chair at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday August 03, 2004, in the Library Meeting Room of the
Allen Public Library, 2 Allen Civic Plaza, 301 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas.
Items discussed in the preceding meeting workshop included:
• Review Monthly Activity Report and Suggestion Box Forms.
• Update on NETLS.
• Consider Auditorium Use Policy.

2. Approve Minutes of the July 01, 2004, Regular Meeting.
The Board approved the minutes of July 01, 2004 with a correction showing John Ross
attending.
3. Review Monthly Activity Report and Suggestion Box Forms.
The Board reviewed Monthly Activity Reports and Suggestion Box Forms were read.
4. Review Library Code of Conduct.

The library board had a brief review and discussion of the Library Code of Conduct Policy. A more
detailed discussion and possible changes to be recommended will take place at the next board meeting.
5. Update on New Library Facility Progress.
Library Director, Barbara Buehler gave an update on the progress of the new building. The contractors
have asked for an extension. It is expected to be ready in late December or early January. Furniture
and graphic bids have been awarded, and light/sound bids have been received.
1 6. Preview Sabuda Exhibit Materials.

Library Director, Barbara Buehler, showed slides of the Sabuda Exhibit that the Allen Public Library
will display in the spring of 2005, in the new library.
Jane Bennett, President of the Friends, was unable to attend, but sent in a reminder of the August 25°
Library Volunteer Luncheon and the August 266 Reception at the Train Depot for 501.0
organizations and members of the Leadership Allen Classes. The Reception is being done with the
Allen Philharmonic Orchestra Board.
The Chocolate Orgy will be held at the Train Depot on October 201 because early voting will be in the
Library Meeting Room. The cookbook, Passion of Chocolate, will be ready for sale at that time.
The 2004 Summer Reading Club had 1,968 children enrolled, 3,834 people attended the 41 programs.
This is an increase of nearly a thousand people from 2003-2004 with a 74% increase.
The Teen Summer Programs 2004 preliminary results indicate a total attendance of 238 (average 48 per
program) with a 60% increase over 2003.
Teen Summer Volunteers totaled 125 with 1,466 hours volunteered in 2004. The Teen Advisory Board
members volunteered 119 hours.
The Board was very pleased with the reports because they feel that getting the youth involved is
essential to the growth of the library

• August 26, 2004, Reception for 501.C3 Organizations and Leadership Allen Classes will be held
at the Train Depot.
• September 7, 2004, 7:30 p.m. Library Board Meeting and Teen Workshop Reception.
• October 20, 2004, Chocolate Orgy and Passion of Chocolate, cookbook sale will be held at the
Train Depot.
9. Adjourn
The Library Board meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
