Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Board Chair, Cal Calvin at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday August 05, 2003, in the Library Meeting Room of
the Allen Public Library, 2 Allen Civic Plaza, 301 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas.

There were no Citizen Comments.
Review Monthly Report and Suggestion Box Forms.
The Statistics Report was reviewed. Suggestion Box Forms were read.
Update on Building Project Status..
Update on Building Status was given by Library Director, Barbara Buehler. The Bids have been
advertised and opened. The contract will be awarded at the first City Council Meeting in September
Consider Library Policy/Procedures regarding USA PATRIOT Act.
The Board reviewed and discussed the USA PATRIOT Act. Steps librarians are to follow if a search
warrant is presented was discussed. Board member, George Chnsman, suggested that step 7 included a
warning of the penalty for librarians discussing any of the information
The ACLU and City Attorneys were discussed as was the advisability of posting one of the statements
in the library
Motion: Upon a motion made by Board member, Gec•ge Chnsman and a second by Board member,
Juba Elina, the Board voted (5) for and one (I ) opposed to post the City Attorney's Statement.
5. Consider Policy regarding Library Meeting Room Scheduling.
The Board reviewed the Library Meeting Room scheduling. It was agreed that something should be
done to keep room free of weekly scheduled meetings, when scheduled for a whole year.
Other Business
The June Board Minutes were reviewed.
Motion* Upon a motion made by Board member, George Chrisman and a second by Board member,
John Ross, the Board voted (6) for and none (0) opposed to pass the June Minutes.
The July Board Minutes were reviewed.
Motion. Upon a motion made by Board member, Donna Various and a second by Board member, John
Ross, the Board voted (6) for and none (0) opposed to pass the July Minutes.
The Presentation to the City Council will probably be dune near the end of the year
