® Call to Order and Announce a Ouorum is Present
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Vice Chair, John Ross, (as Board Chair, Cal Calvin was absent), at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December
03, 2002, in the Library Meeting Room of the Allen Public Library, 2 Allen Civic Plaza, 301 Century Parkway,
Allen, Texas. Items discussed in the preceding meeting workshop included:
• Review Monthly Activity Report and Suggestion Box Forms.
• Report on NETLS Meeting.
• Review of Standards for Texas Public Libraries.
• Update on Friends' Activities.

1. Citizen's Comments.
There were no Citizen Comments.
2. Approve Minutes of the December 3, 2002, Regular Meeting.
Motion: Upon a motion made by Board member George Christian and a second by Board member in
Long, the Board voted (5) for and none (0) opposed to approve minutes of December 3, 2002.

1 3. Review Monthly Activity Report and Suggestion Box Forms.
The Monthly Activity Report was briefly discussed and Suggestion Box forms were read.
4. Review of Standards for Texas Public Libraries.
Library Director, Barbara Buehler gave the board members an implementation checklist. Each item
was briefly explained and discussed. Each item was classified as (1) Achieved (2) Working ON (3)
Not yet begun and (4) Not applicable. The Board feels that advocacy with the City Council will be
advantageous as we move toward the new library building.
Barbaro was asked to put together a report summarizing how the Allen Public Library compares with
other Local, State and National libraries in both strengths and weaknesses.
Update on Friends' Activities.
There was no representative from the Friends Board at this meeting. Library Director, Barbara Buehler
reported to the board on the Friends Christmas parade entry
6. Other Business
A reminder was given for the NETL's meeting, Monday, December 9' in Garland and for the City
Council Appreciation Dinner, Thursday, December 12" at the Hilton Inn.
The Library will be closed Friday, December 13th for Staff Development. It will also be closed for
Christmas Eve and Christmas day, December 24th and 25'
The Library will close early on New Year's Eve, December 31" at 6:00 P.M and will be closed January
V for New Year's Day
7. Calendar.
• January 01, 2003 —Library Closed for New Years Day
• January 07, 2003 — Library Board Meeting
• January 17, 2003 — City of Allen Employee Awards Dinner, Hilton Inn
Adjourn
Motion: Upon a motion made by Board member Donna Vanous and a second by Board member George
Chrisman, the Board voted (5) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the Board Meeting.
