The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chair Donna Drews Various and a
quorum was announced. Those attending were Various, Cal Calvin, Ruth Pringle, Jo
Long, Frank Snidow, and Library Director Barbara Buehler. Absent were Marybeth
Bonczek and John Ross. N
II. The minutes were approved as read. The monthly activity report and suggestion box
forms were reviewed.
III. Circulation Supervisor Dave Bateman made a presentation to the Board, outlining and
commenting on the responsibilities of those who work in the circulation, or check out,
area. Bateman stated that customer service was the major responsibility, then enumerated
the regular tasks that are performed. A few general questions and comments were made
by the Board.
IV. Calvin reported on his experiences in participating in Library Legislative Day in Austin.
He joined a group from the area to call upon two of our representatives to promote
legislation benefiting libraries. Cal also visited the State Library while in Austin.
V. Pringle and Long both attended the annual Board Business Workshops sponsored by the
Volunteer Center of Collin County on February 8, 2001 at the Plano Centre. The kickoff
speaker Carolyn Corbin was especially noted—Pringle bought a copy of Corbin's book
which she promised to donate to the library Each Board member described the particular
workshops she attended.
VI. To serve on the Evaluation and Planning Committee to review architect proposals and
make recommendations to the City Council, two Board members were selected: Donna
Drews Various and John Ross. The Committee will meet on April 3 to make selections
for recommending to City Council. The 3-4 finalists will make presentations to'tity
Council on April 26. Since the Committee will meet on the Board's regular meeting
night, there will be no Board meeting. Instead, members we encouraged to attend the
April 26 meeting to hear and see architect presentations in Council Chambers at City
Hall.
VII. The Board postponed meeting room policy review until a later date.
VIII. Buehler announced that the Friends of the Library received the Chamber's "Spirit of
Allen" award at the annual Chamber banquet.

IX. The meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
