Min - Library Board - 2000 - 08/01 - RegularMINUTES OF THE ALLEN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD August 1, 2000 ALLEN PUBLIC LIBRARY TWO ALLEN CRTC PLAZA ALLEN, TEXAS 75013 I. The regular meeting of the Allen Public Library Board was called to order at 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2000 in the library's conference room Those present: John Ross, Cal Calvin, Marybeth Bonczek, Donna Various and Frank Snidow. Visitors were Lisa Hinegardner from the Friends and Jean Chastain. Also present was Barbara Buehler, Staff. H. The minutes from the June 27, 2000 meeting were approved as mailed. III. The monthly activity report was reviewed and continued growth in service levels was noted IV. Suggestion box forms were also reviewed and comments made. V. Board members serving on the bond election committee reported on the activities so far to promote a positive outcome. Cal and John reported that they have each been speakers before several boards and Civic organizations. Frank reported that all yard signs have been distributed. Donna noted the number and quality of letters to the editor that have appeared to date in the Allen American and the Dallas Morning News. There will also be a town hall meeting tomorrow evening (Aug. 2) at the library at 7:00 p.m. Unfortunately, that is the same night as the school open houses in the school district. VI. Barbara informed the Board members that all boards and commissions meeting minutes will now be posted on the City's website. That news was well received. There followed a general discussion of the desirability of more networking by the Board with other boards and with the City Council as well, perhaps on a quarterly or at least semi-annual basis. VII. Copies of the current meeting room policy and another library's meeting room policy were distributed. Barbara will obtain and mail copies to all Board members of 2 or 3 other libraries meeting room policies. The Board is interested in reviewing the local policy and perhaps recommending some changes. VIII. Barbara informed the Board that the Allen Public Library has been selected as a site for a small traveling exhibit that is part of a larger exhibit in the metroplex to recognize the life and work of Mary Baker Eddy. The multi -part exhibit is touring the nation. The major part will be at the Dallas Public Library during August and September. The Allen Public Library will host a portion of the exhibit for 2 weeks in August. IX. Cal Calvin was selected to represent the Allen Public Library as Lay Representative to the Northeast Texas Library System for the coming year; Frank Snidow will be the Alternate. X. Copies of the quarterly financial report on the library trust fund were distributed. Discussion followed on future needs to activate the Board's "Plan for Supplemental Funding" pending the election outcome. XI.
