Min - Library Board - 1995 - 03/08 - RegularMINUTES ALLEN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MARCH 8, 1995 ALLEN PUBLIC LIBRARY TWO ALLEN CIVIC PLAZA ALLEN, TX 75002 L The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. by Betty Matthews. Members present were Don Wilson, Fritz Dietrich, Bob Flood, Mary Walker, Julie Wihnoth and Barbara Buehler. H. The minutes from the February 7, 1995 meeting were reviewed. A motion was made by Bob Flood and seconded by Don Wilson for approval. ID. The monthly statistical repon/suggestion box review. Barbam Buehler passed out statistical summaries for review as well as items from the suggestion box. The increase in smrytime/film attendance was noted as well as the increase in reserves. Suggestion box items included requests for old radio shows: more "books about famous people": putting liquid soap in the bathroom; holding books for school projects (already being done); and a request for a play area. IV. Planning for TLA Conference. Apnl 5, 1995 is the TLA Conference day for Board Members. Please confirm attendance plans with Barbara Buehler. It will be held at the Dallas Convention Center. Exhibits will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be a luncheon at noon. V. Bloodcare Request. Barbara Buehler gave an update on the Bloodcare request to have a blood drive at the library. She requested and received references from Bloodcare and had it reviewed by city attorney. Barbara also heard back from the Carrollton & Duncanville library directors and they reported that things had gone smoothly when Bloodcare had used their facilities. Barbam will find a date that works for the library & Bloodcare and report back. Vl. Mary Walker gave an update on the Transportation Committee. It is the goal of the committee to have 8% of the trips in Allen to be biking or walking. In order to receive grants in this area there must first be establishment of need and usage. Mary will attend the next meeting which is scheduled for March. VIL Julie Wilmoth reported on the NETLS Workshop held at the Allen Library on March 8. Betty Matthews & Barbara Buehler also attended. There were three speakers: Pat Doyle, Asst. City Manager for McKinney, spoke on "The Significance of Networking & Background Research"; John Hill of Coppell, former Chairman of NETLS Advisory Council spoke on "Diversity of Funding Sources"; and Sharon Hamner, Allen City Council member spoke on "Timelines of Various Funding Entities." Dale Fleeger, NETLS System Coordinator wrapped up the day with a summary. Vm. Barbara Buehler reported on CODI conference she attended in Salt Lake City. She noted that almost every session had something to do with Internet. She shared information she had received from Dynix as well as examples from other cities which may be pertinent to Allen depending on the future of our relationship with Plano and the possibility of a future need for a stand alone system in Allen. IX. Update on CIP Barham reported that the new terminals have arrived and she is preparing a grant proposal for the automatic doors. She has quotes for more furniture and a purchase will be made soon. X. Barbara reported that a gentleman would like to set up a table at the library to collect signatures in support of PBS. In light of the precedent this might set, it was suggested that Barbara tell him no. XI. A motion was made by Don Wilson and seconded by Fritz Dietrich to adjourn at 9:00 p.m.
