I. The regular meeting of the Allen Library Board was called to order at 7:35 pm by Board Chair
Fritz Dietrich. Members present were Julie Wilmoth, Eric Liepins, Sharon Curtis, Carl
Williams, Donna Vanous, and John Ross. Also present was Library Director Barbara Buehler.
U. The board recessed for 30 minutes to attend the Young Authors reception in the library meeting
MOM.
1111. The board reconvened at 8:15 pm in the conference room.
IV. The minutes from the June 4, 1996 and June 18, 1996 meetings were reviewed. One correction
was made on the June 4 minutes - the spelling of Rumbly. Dona Vanous moved and Eric
Liepins seconded for approval of the minutes as corrected.
V. Barbara Buehler distributed enrollment information for the Summer Reading Club. 1,340
children enrolled and 696 of those achieved their basic reading goal. 4,089 children attend the
summer programs at the library. Barbara thanked the Friends of the Library for their support of
the Young Authors' Workshop and the Summer Reading Club.
Vt. Quarterly financial report on trust fund - balance as of June 30, 1996 is $273,899.67
VU. Response to Board's concerns regarding use of the library meeting room. City Manager, Jon
McCarty responded to the board's five concerns through a letter read by Barbara. Barbara will
draft a response from the library board. The board is still concerned about security, custodial
care, and the length of time the arrangement would continue.
VID. Consider volunteer home work assistance program. Donna Vanous distributed information from
the Gladys Harrington Public Library in Plano regarding a homework center that was started
there for after school assistance to children in grades 1-8. Donna will pursue getting more
information and bring this back for further discussion.
IX. Barbara Buehler passed out the Statistical Report and items from the suggestion box for the
board to review. She also informed us that the annual budget retreat is this weekend.
X. A motion was made by Eric Liepins and seconded by John Ross to adjourn at 9:50 pm.
