Min - Library Board - 1996 - 10/01 - RegularS ALLEN PUBLICLIC LIBRARY BOARD OCTOBER 1,19% ALLEN PUBLIC LIBRARY TWO ALLEN CMC PLAZA ALLEN, TX 75013 L The regular meeting of the Allen Library Board was called to order at 7 30 p.m by Board Chair, Fritz Dietrich. Members present were Carl Williams, Donna Various, John Ross and Frank Snidow. Sharon Curtis and Julie Wdmoth arrived late. Also present were Library Director, Barbara Buehler and Debbie Vavra, Vice President of Friends. IL City Secretary, Judy Morrison administered oaths of office to Fritz Dietrich & Frank Snidow. IU. The minutes from the September 3, 1996 meeting were reviewed. John Ross moved and Carl Williams seconded for approval of the minutes as submitted. IV. Election of officers Sharon Curtis nominated Julie Wilmoth for Secretary. John Ross seconded. Unim mous approval. Sharon Curtis nominated Dora Various for Vice Chairman. Carl Williams seconded Unanimous approval Donna Various nominated Fritz Dietrich for Chairman. John Ross seconded. Unanimous approval V. Fritz Dietrich (in the absence of the secretary) read the Library Ordinance which stipulates that the ordinance be read after the oath of office is administered. The board appointments are now made in the fall and the library board has 7 places Board members may serve 3 consecutive full terms VI. John Ross reported on the September NEILS meeting held in Garland. The program featured Mark Smith from the Texas State Library who spoke about the importance of collected statistics New NETLS vendors were also announced. VIL Debbie Vavra, Vice President of Friends reported that Rosemary Rumbly will speak at 7:15 p.m., Tuesday, October 15 at the Friends general membership meeting. The budget will be presented in the business meeting from 7:00-7.15 p.m. They will also have the Book Lovers Page A Day Calendar (suggested donation. $5.00) available at the meeting VIII. Homework Center Update - Suggestion was made to invite Norma from the Plano Public Library to attend a board meeting to answer some questions for us (Possible the Dec board meeting). IX. Donna Vanous presented a Fundraising idea for the holiday season to sell bows to put an the library Christmas tree and these bows would represent the purchase of a book fm the library collection. Suggested price - $ 15.00 for children's book and $25 00 for adult book Barbara will talk to coral and we will follow up the November meeting X, The Parks & Recreation Board has extended an invitation to the Library Board fm ajoint dinner workshop on Monday, November 11 at the Recreation Center's Lakeside Pavilion. Sharon Curtis mwed we accept the invitation Motion carried XI. There being no further business the meeting was ad)ourned at 8:40 p.m.
