The January 7, 1997 Allen Public Library Board meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. by
Board Chair Fria Dietrich. Members present were John Ross, Frank Snidow, Dona Vanous,
Julie Wihnoth and Sharon Curtis. Also present was Library Director Barbara Buehler.

Frank Snidow moved and Sharon Curtis seconded for approval of the minutes from the
December 3, 1996 board meeting. Motion carried.
HI.
Report on Holiday Bows for Books campaign - Barbaro Buehler reported that 23 bows were sold
which will add 23 new books to the library collection (16 children's books and 7 adult).
IV.
Develop Questions for Community Survey - Board Members shared input on format and content
for a community survey by discussing surveys from other cities and reviewing sample questions
presented by John Ross and Dona Vanous. The survey will be completed for mail-out in the
next Municipal Messenger.
V.
Other Items of Interest - Board Member Julie Wihmoth announced that she will be resigning
from the Board as she has accepted a job with the City of Allen and city policy does not allow
employees to serve on city boards. Barbara Buehler reported that Reference Librarian Margaret
Marshall has requested a leave of Absence to accompany her husband and family on an overseas
sabbatical. Barbara Buehler distributed a sample of an Internet policy for board members to
review.

Dona Vanous moved and Sharon Curtis seconded for adjournment of the meeting at 9:00 p.m.
