The December, 1997 Allen Public Library Board meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by
Board Chairperson, Fritz Dietrich. Members present were Donna Varus, Rhonda Grigg, Joe
Defenderfer, Frank Smdow, John Ross, and Mary Vail -Grube. Also present were Library
Director Barbara Buehler, and the Friends of the Library representative Marian Chrisman.
IL The Board reviewed the minutes of the October 7, 1997 meeting. F Smdow moved to approve
the minutes as amended. J. Ross seconded the motion. Motion carried.
UL Board Secretary, R. Grigg read Ordinance No 419-11-82 purses ut to Section 3 of the same
Ordinance.
IV. Suggestions received by the Library were reviewed by the Board. All of the suggestions were
being addressed by Library Staff The statistical report for November 1997 was reviewed by the
Board.
V. Plans for attendance at the Northeast Texas Library System meeting scheduled for December 16
were reviewed.
VL The Library board reviewed a suggestion in revise the age policy for obtaining a library card. F
Smdow made a motion to change the requirement to 5 years of age or entering kindergarten J.
Ross seconded the motion. Motion carried.
VQ. In other business, B. Buehler announced that Telecirc, a new telephone circulation service was
on-line and available for use. J. Ross proposed a motion to make a recommendation to the City
Council that a marquee be constructed in front of the library as a means to advertise Library
Information. F Snidow seconded the motion. M. Chrisman advised the Board on the upcoming
activities of the Friends of the Library.
VIN. M. Vail -Grube moved to adjourn the meeting. R Grigg seconded the motion The meeting was
adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
