Min - City Council - 1976 - 04/01 - RegularRegular Session April 1, 1976 Allen City Council Present Mayor Frank Dagger Councilmen: Bob Lowman, C.D. Whitaker, Clifford Hart, H.C. Brooks, Jr. and Mickey Pierson. Motion C.D. Whitaker Second Mickey Pierson that minutes of last meeting be approved as read. Motion carried 5 for 0 against. Public hearing was held on request to de -annex 90 plus acres north of Bravo addition on Hwy 5. Mrs. Madilyn Wilder spoke for the request and stated that America needs all the farm land that is available and that if we do not de -annex and forgive them of their taxes they could not continue to provide the United States with the $2550.00 wotth of maize, a year. She said that it was unpatriotic not to de -annex this property. Motion C.D. Whitaker Second H.C. Brooks, Jr, to deny request. Motion carried 5 for 0 against. Mrs. Wilder became very upset and as she was leaving the Council Chambers, in slang she advised that the Councilmen were a bunch of fatherless children. Motion carried 5 for 0 against. Public Hearing on request R.P. Cain to overlap setback lines on his ;of property at, )j'/ b-, "'4 V 9� Motion Mickey Pierson Second C.D Whitaker to grant request. Motion carried 5 for 0 against. Clyde Marrs had a request in reference to some construction on his property just off of Hwy. 2170. Council advised that this would have to be taken up with Building Inspector Richardson. Motion Mickey Pierson Second C.D. Whitaker that this be turned over to Mr. Richardson. Motion carried 5 for 0 against. Mayor Dagger read letter form Terrence O'Rourke in reference to gas banking deals between Lone Star Gas and the large oil Companies. Council decided that before we would adopt his attached ordinance in reference to same, that our attorney should look at this. Jim Eaton of the Water Department requested that the City purchase 400 more Hersey meters from Wallace Campbell because we are nearly out at this time. Motion Clifford Hart Second C.D. Whitaker to purchase 500 more meters. Motion carried 5 for 0 against. Councilmen H.C. Brooks, Jr., commended the Volunteer Fire Dept. for their quick response to the fire at Fox and Jacobs home. He advised that the City could not have had much better response if we had had a paid dept. Mayor and other Councilmen commended firemen also. Fire Chief Ron Gentryrequested that the Council consider giving the firemen a raise because their pay was averaging out to approximately 67¢ per run. Motion Bob Lowman Second C.D. Whitaker to raise firemen to $12 per month and Chief and Asst. Chief to $15 per month. Motion carried 5 for 0 agaisut. Jim Eaton requested that he and Anthony Hancock be permitted to attend the school in Plainview in reference to street sign and the funding by the state for same. Motion Bob Lowman Secodn H.C. Brooks, Jr., that permission be granted. Motion carried 5 for 0 against. im Mayor Dagger discussed the retirements benefits propsed by the City and advised that most of the banks did not want to handle it because it was too small of an account. Motion Mickey Pierson Secodn Bob Iowman that retirement be handled through Preston State Bank. Motion carried 5 for 0 against. Motion Mickey Pierson Second Clifford Bart to pay bills presented. Motion carried 5 for 0 aginst. Motion C.D. Whitaker Second Bob Iowman that meeting adjourn . Motion carried 5 for 0 against.
