' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCH, OF THE CITY OF ALLEN,
COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
NEGOTIATE A CONTINUATION OF SOLID WASTE COLLECTION IN THE
CITY OF ALLEN AND, IF NECESSARY, FOR THE CITY ATTORNEY TO
SEEK ACTION TO INSURE THAT THERE IS NO LAPSE IN SOLID WASTE
SERVICE WITHIN THE CITY.
WHEREAS, currently solid waste collection and recycling is performed for both residential and commercial
accounts by BFI (Browning Ferris Industries); and,
WHEREAS, BFI's contract with the City of Allen ends May 1, 1997; and,
WHEREAS, City Council authorized solicitation of proposals for collection of solid waste and after a
workshop and hearing, the Council awarded the contract for residential wllection/recycling and for commercial
collection to Community Waste Disposal, Inc. (CWD) on March 6, 1997; and,
WHEREAS, CWD is to begin service June 1, 1997; and,
WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Council that the citizens of Allen be provided a continuous, uninterrupted
solid waste collection service.
NOW THEREFORE, BE rr RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN,
COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS THAT:
Section 1: The City Manager is authorized to negotiate the continuation of service for solid waste collection
with BFI — it being the intent that solid waste collection service be continuous and uninterrupted.
Section 2: The City Attorney is authorized to take appropriate legal action under the powers of the City to
protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Allen by insuring that solid waste service is continued.
