AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE FOLLOWING OF EMERGENCY
VEHICLES: PROVIDING PARKING WITHIN THE SAME BLOCK
WHERE EMERGENCY VEHICLE HAS STOPPED TO RENDER SERVICE:
PROVIDING FOR A MAXIMUM FINE OF UP TO TWO HUNDRED
DOLLARS FOR VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE AND PROVIDING
FOR PUBLICATION OF THE CAPTION HEREOF:
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest of the residents
of the City of Allen that emergency vehicles be allowed
to perform their work without interference, and
WHEREAS, obstruction of the work performed by
emergency vehicles and the persons connected thereto
may cause increased damage to property or more severe
injury to persons,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ALLEN:
SECTION ONE: That "emergency vehicle", for the
purpose of this ordinance, shall be any police vehicle,
ambulance, fire department vehicle or other vehicle recog-
nizable as being on a mission of mercy.
SECTION TWO: That the driver of any vehicle, other
than one on official business, shall not follow an
emergency vehicle traveling on an emergency call closer
than five hundred feet or drive into or park such vehicle
within the block where the emergency vehicle has stopped
to answer the call.
SECTION THREE: That after the effective date of
this ordinance, described below, any person who stall
drive his vehicle in violation d this ordinance shall
be guilty of a misdemeanor and may be fined any sum not
to exceed two hundred dollars.
SECTION FOUR: That the caption of this ordinance
shall be published at least ten days in a newspaper
having a general circulation in the City of Allen,
upon completion of which, this ordinance shall be
effective.
