Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
' With a quorum of the committee members present, the regular meeting of the Public Art
Committee was called to order by Benson at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, in the Parks
and Recreation Conference Room, Municipal Courts, Parks and Recreation Building, 301 Century
Parkway, Allen, Texas 75013.
1. Approve minutes from the March 21, 2017 Regular Meeting
MOTION: Upon a motion made by committee member Raines and seconded by committee
member Gilbert, the committee voted five (5) for and none (0) opposed to accept
minutes from the March 21, 2017 regular meeting as presented.
2. Update on Current Projects
Matt shared photos of the installation of the mosaic project currently in process at Ford Pool. The
artist arrived Monday, April 17, to start the project and has made good progress despite the
weather. It was decided that the tile on the columns will be brought down to two inches above
the bottom surface. A dinner with the artist team and Public Art Committee will be held
Wednesday, April 19, at 7 p.m. onsite. All committee members were encouraged to attend.
The fabrication and installation contract for the Public Art at Watters Branch Park was pushed
back but should go before City Council in May. The contract will include not only the art piece
but the interpretive signage as well. Construction on the park is scheduled to begin May 1.

Matt shared with the committee the nearly complete design drawings for Windridge Park. Jen
reported that she and Lam Cuellar, met with Tracy Henderson, the Boyd Elementary art teacher,
and Emily Brown, an Allen High School art teacher, regarding the project. Both teachers were on
board with the project. Producing art work in the theme of Romero Britto, with participation
from both the high school students and the fifth grade Boyd students was discussed. Staff will
reach out to Meridith McKinley with Via Partnership to inquire about call format and budget.
There are no new updates on the GCAA project at this time.
3. Discussion on Future Projects
Matt reached out to a local architect on general pricing information to obtain the structural
specifics to place an art piece in the Rotunda at the Allen Event Center. The committee then
briefly discussed the level of detail that needs to be provided on the call and the level of
investment that would be required to obtain these specifications. Staff will research existing
building drawings to see if any additional information can be obtained and reach back out to the
architect with any additional information that may he able to reduce the scope of work necessary.
