TUESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2018- 6:30 P.M.

Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum present, the Keep Allen Beautiful regular meeting was called to order by Chair
Elias Shaikh at 6:33 pm on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 in the City Hall Basement Conference
Room B of City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, TX 75002.
1. Approve Minutes of July 17, 2018 Meeting in the City Hall Basement- Meeting
Room B, 305 Century Parkway,Allen,TX. A motion to approve the minutes of July
17, 2018 was made by Sommer Bernard and seconded by Susan Ponder, with all in favor.
2. Receive Financial Report. Josue Diaz reported that there was $13,646.09 in the
American National Bank account, according to the last bank statement received. A
motion to accept the financial report was made by Ryan Smith and seconded by Sue
Kacines, with all in favor. A discussion began regarding the Keep Allen Beautiful, Mardy
and Lisa Brown Scholarship, which is funded from this account. The discussion was
tabled until the October meeting.
3. Receive Update on KAB Events and Projects.
• Educator Expo—September 25, 2018 —Andrea Smith gave an update on the
giveaways received. All giveaways need to be turned in by September 7`h. She
announced that the Dallas Zoo and Municipal Teen Court will be attending as new
exhibitors. Ryan Smith, Elias Shaikh, Susan Kacines, and Sommer Bernard
committed to work the event.
• Trees for Allen Discussion—Donna Kliewer reported that pre-ordered tree pick up
and sales will be during the Arbor Day Celebration at Country Meadows Park on
October 27. Ryan Smith, Elias Shaikh, Sommer Bernard, Susan Ponder, Sue Kacines,
and Troy Webre volunteered to work the event.

• Arbor Day Celebration—Andrea Smith explained why Arbor Day Celebration is at a
different time from the Arbor Day Contest. Arbor Day Celebration will be at Country
Meadows Park on October 27.
• Recycled Art Contest—Andrea Smith reported that the theme is Wild for Recycling.
• Recycled Art Contest Voting—Andrea Smith reported that voting will take place
between 29th&30`h.
• Allen Recycles Day—Donna Kliewer explained the memo to Administration
proposing changes to the GAC as requested by the board for safety reasons.
• Arbor Day Poster Contest—Andrea Smith reported that the theme is "Trees are
Terrific: Inside and Out". The contest starts in December and ends in January.
• Rotary Holiday Parade—Elias Shaikh gave an overview of the event.
4. Discussion of Outreach Initiatives. Andrea Smith completed that staff their educational
outreach efforts at Camp Star. Becky Perdue and Denise Webre taught two lessons this
summer. In the fall, Andrea Smith will be teaching at the Allen Public Library.
Adjourn
A motion to adjourn the regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful board meeting was made by
Troy Webre, and seconded by Ryan Smith, with all in favor. The regular session of the Keep
Allen Beautiful board adjourned at 7:36 pm on Tuesday, August 21, 2018.
