Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum present, the Keep Allen Beautiful regular meeting was called to order by Chair Susan
Ponder at 6:36 pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in the City Hall Basement Conference Room B of
City Hall, 305 Century Parkway,Allen,TX 75002.
1. Approve Minutes of January 17,2017 Meeting in the Conference Room of the Municipal
Service Center,301 Century Parkway,Allen,TX. A motion to approve the minutes of
January 17,2017 was made by Troy Webre and seconded by Cheryl Baez,with all in favor.
2. Receive Financial Report. Josue Diaz reported that there was $12,601.94 in the American
National Bank account. Donna Kliewer reported that$2,183 were donated to the KAB
endowment fund to be used for the KAB Scholarship.A motion to accept the financial report was
made by Chris Wallace and seconded by Elias Shaikh, with all in favor.
3. Grant Request—AISD—Becky Perdue.Becky Perdue from Anderson Elementary and Dorothy
Thompson,Director of Student Nutrition at AISD,were present to request$500 to fund two beds
and granite. Donna Kliewer offered to provide the soil and compost from Texas Pure Soil and use
of the KAB Tool Trailer. A motion was made by Chris Wallace to accept the grant request for
$500. A motion to amend the first motion was made by Elias Shaikh to award$400 plus soil.No
second was received.A discussion was held. A motion was made to accept the grant request for
$500 by Cheryl Baez and seconded by Elias Shaikh.
4. Receive Update on KAB Events and Projects.
• GCAA Project—Update—Donna Kliewer reported that there had been some progress on the
project. She met with architects to design the entryway for either artwork or a monument.
• KTB Awards Applications Due—February 17, 2017—After Action—Josue Diaz reported
that the applications were completed for affiliate recognition.The GCAA was submitted on
February 7, 2017. Staff submitted two additional awards.

• Arbor Day Poster Contest Winner/School Tree Planting Ceremony—After Action—Andrea
Smith reported that the tree planting ceremony took place at Beverly Cheatham Elementary.
Susan Ponder attended on behalf of the board.
• City Council Recognition of Arbor Day Poster Contest Winners and The Shoe Bank—After
Action—Andrea Smith reported that the winners of the Arbor Day Poster contest were
presented and Michael Barringer, from The Shoe Bank,received a proclamation. Susan
Ponder and Elias Shaikh were present as representatives for KAB.
• Allen ISD Eagle Run—February 25, 2017—Update—Josue Diaz reported KAB has been
registered with the Eagle Run organizers. Susan Ponder,Mark Schallhorn, and Elias Shaikh
have volunteered to operate the booth.
• Annual Report to Council-February 28, 2017—Update—Donna Kliewer reports that
materials will be available for review by Friday,February 24, 2017. Susan Ponder stated that
she will collect the materials sometime Friday.
• Litter Index—March 1, 2017—Update—Josue Diaz reported that the drivers and volunteers
have been secured for the Litter Index on Wednesday,March 1, 2017.
• Outdoor Adventure Fest—March 25, 2017—Andrea Smith reported that the parks department
invited KAB to host a booth at the event but that board members were not required to attend.
5. Receive Reports from Strategic Planning Initiatives.
a. Communication—Andrea Smith reported that the packets contained samples of flyers
being mailed out to the community.
b. Environmental Center/Molson Farm—Nothing to report.
c. Environmental Education in AISD—Andrea Smith reported that Cheatham Elementary is
going strong with carton recycling and borrowing the puppet. Josue Diaz reported that he
gave a presentation to staff of Bolin Elementary.
d. Parks and Recreation Liaison—Nothing to report.

A motion to adjourn the regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful board meeting was made by Troy
Webre and seconded by Cheryl Baez, with all in favor.The regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful
board was adjourned at 7:35 pm on Tuesday,February 21, 2017.
