PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
SPECIAL CALLED MEETING
DECEMBER 1, 1984, 8:30 A.M.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Ken Browning, Chairman
Mickey Christakos, Vice -Chairman
Helen Johnson, Secretary
Harold Weaver
Gary Edstrom
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Don Proeschel
Clint Miller
CITY STAFF PRESENT:
Mark Thornton, Director of Parks and Recreation
I. CALL TO ORDER
LChairman, Ken Browning called the meeting to order at
8:40 a.m.
II. DISCUSS PLANS FOR FORD PARK
A. Site Plan
Director Mark Thornton presented a revised site plan
prepared by Schrickel, Rollins, and Associates. The
plan attempted to address the comments made at the
last Board meeting.
After review and discussion, it was the general
consensus that the consultant had adequately addressed
the problems previously discussed.
Thornton indicated that a final site plan would be
presented at the next regular meeting.
B. Bath House
The Board briefly discussed the architecture desired
for the bath house. To assist the architect when

Among the desired amenities discussed, were,

1, breezeway entrance
2. vending concession area only
3, one shower stall inside each dressing area
4. unique design to accent the area, possibly of
a rustic appearance.
C. Racquet Courts
Director Thornton presented a drawing of examples of
a three wall court complex. Although these types of
courts are uncommon in the area, they may be better
suited to our climate.
The Board discussed the pros and cons as to the type
of facility to be constructed and its anticipated use.
After a lengthy discussion, it was determined that these
courts would be set up as a low priority and the
construction of the courts be at a later phase.
III. ADJOURN
There being no further business,
MOTION: Gary Edstrom moved to adjourn, Harold Weaver
seconded. The motion carried, 5 for 0 against.
