MEMBERS PRESENT Jim Waldbauer, Vice -Chairman Leah Magruder, Secretary Byron Nielsen Dan Turner Mark Stout Mike Rippe MEMBERS ABSENT Lonnie Thomas, Chairman GUESTS PRESENT David Turner STAFF PRESENT Sue Witkowski, Department Secretary I. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m., by Vice -Chairman Jim Waldbauer. II. CITIZENS COMMENTS There were no citizens wishing to speak before the Board at this time. i PAGE 2 PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING MARCH 13, 1995 III. APPROVE MINUTES FROM FEBRUARY 13, 1995 REGULAR CALLED MEETING Vice -Chairman Jim Waldbauer called for approval of the Minutes from February 13, 1995. Board Member Mike Rippe requested that the Minutes be amended to include a comment he had made during a staff presentation by Tim Derider regarding maintenance of City property Mr. Rippe commented that if the City were to continue to ask for citizen support of parks, the Parks Department should continue to strive to maintain those facilities. His comment was made in reference to the Reed Park Tennis Court area. MOTION: Byron Nielsen made a motion to accept the Minutes from the February 13, 1995 Regular Called Meeting as amended by the above. Jim Waldbauer seconded, and the motion carried 6 for, 0 against. IV. DISCUSS WORKSHOP TO BE HELD APRIL 1, 1995 Vice Chairman Jim Waldbauer reported that each of the subcommittee chairmen listed on the proposed agenda would be asked to give a brief overview of their goals and expectations for the balance of this fiscal year. He also indicated that Rhoda would be available for meetings with each of the subcommittee chairmen to offer background or information that they may need. Jim indicated that this workshop would be a fact-finding, educational mission for the entire Board. Rhoda will be available for meetings during the lunch hour if that will help any of the Board members with their work day Each Board member was invited to contact the Parks and Recreation Office directly for an appointment. Jim recommended that each Chairman might want to consult Rhoda regarding what to bring forth during their specific presentation. Byron Nielsen said that he had specifically requested an afternoon time for this workshop since he had prior commitments for the morning hours. He was will try to make arrangements to be present. It was determined that Chapman, Lonnie Thomas would be consulted with to see if his afternoon schedule would allow the workshop to take place from 2-5 pm. Jim indicated that this workshop would probably be inlieu of the April Regular Parks and Recreation Board Meeting. PAGE 3 PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING j MARCH 13, 1995 Mike Rippe inquired as to the frequency of these workshops, and was told that they had been held annually in the past. V. DIRECTOR UPDATES It was reported that due to excessive rain days, the Recreation Center would probably not open until November. There was no news on the Cottonwood Community Park Grant Application, nor was any word expected for several months. Byron Nielsen inquired as to whether or not Rhoda had received a lot of flack on the fields and was told no, she had not. VI. OTHER BUSINESS There was no other business brought forward at this time.
