APPROVE MINUTES FROM SPECIAL CALLED WORKSHOP APRIL 1, 1995 AND REGULAR CALLED MEETING MAY 8, 1995. MOTION: Mark Stout moved to accept the Minutes as presented. Mike Rippe seconded, and the Motion carried 6 for, 0 against. IV. OTHER BUSINESS Rhoda Savage provided the Board members with a copy of a request from Ms. Dena Compton, Sales and Marketing, Twin Creeks Development. The request is to name the athletic facility at Twin Creeks (to be dedicated to the City of Allen) after the Bolin Family who homesteaded the property for many years. They are requesting that the facility be named "Bolin Park" The request was accompanied by several documents supporting the historical significance of the property Rhoda also provided the Board members with a copy of Resolution No. 874-9- 88(R) establishing policy and procedures related to naming municipal facilities. After reviewing the policy, it was determined that the request met the criteria set forth, based on Section 3 "Historical features will include the names of early residents and/or events of significance to the area's development" The Board agreed that staff should recommend to City Council naming the facility Bolin Park after the family whose home stood at the entrance to what is now known as Twin Creeks. Mark Stout questioned the location of the dam where it aligns with Exchange Parkway Jim Waldbauer informed him that the existing dam at that intersection will be taken out since it has been breached on both sides, but that there is another "upstream" from that location is the historical one. Rhoda Savage provided the Board with copies of a letter sent to Lonnie Thomas, Parks and Recreation Board Chairman. The letter briefly outlines the assignments of the Parks and Recreation Board in regard to specific issues, one of which is the above mentioned "Exchange Road Dam Conflict" issue. PAGE 3 PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING NNE 12, 1995 Mike Rippe questioned the "Linear Park" terminology, and Rhoda explained that is the name given to the interconnecting greenbelt park system planned for creek areas, connecting parks, schools etc with hike and bike trails. This plan is described fully in the "Greenbelt Linear Park Study" Rhoda reminded the Board that they would be involved in the Update to the Comprehensive Plan that would meet criteria set forth by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for their grant eligibility guidelines.
