1 5. WALL OF HOPE — MICHELLE MILLER
Michelle Miller spoke to the Board regarding her history with cancer, and how the
idea for a "Cancer Wall of Hope" came about. Michelle was asking the Board to
adopt this project and become involved in all aspects of development and
implementation. Following Michelle's proposal, several members of her support
group spoke briefly to the Board regarding their personal cancer experience and
how much such a wall would mean to them and their families
Michelle clarified to the Board that the names being proposed for inscription on
the wall would be both survivors of cancer as well as those who fought the battle.
Families who live in Collin County and have a loved one who has fought the
cancer battle would be eligible as well even though that family member might not
reside in Collin County
Following several questions from the Board, it was suggested that Michelle return
to the Board with more information on details such as size, have non-profit status,
provide clarification on a "cut-off point" being established. It was also suggested
that Michelle might want to approach the current Leadership Allen Class to see if
they might want to use this as their project, another suggestion was to visit with a
school of architecture in the area and see if the professor might sponsor or take on
the proposal as a class project. Funding suggestions included approaching the
manufacturers of drugs used in treating cancer.
Michelle indicated she would return to the Park Board when some of the above
information was gathered.
6. DISCUSSION ON NAMING KIDMANIA - DON HORTON
Don Horton informed the Board that the Park Foundation was in the process of
raising funds for this community -built playground, and had questions regarding
the donation of funds and possible naming of the playground. Following a brief
discussion by the Board, it was determined that they were not comfortable naming
the playground for one individual (based on a monetary donation) since the intent
was for it to be a community -built facility
7. NAMING OF MALONE PARK — BRIAN BRISTOW
Mr Brian Bristow, Landscape Architect for the City of Allen indicated that time
was of the essence in naming this facility so the architect could wrap-up the
graphics and signage package He reminded the Board that the signage for the
facility will be different than that used in other City parks.
