CALL TO ORDER AND ANNOUNCE A QUORUM IS PRESENT
Chair Ben Ferguson called the Regular Parks and Recreation Board Meeting to
Order at 7:05 p.m.

2. CITIZENS COMMENTS
Chair Ben Ferguson called for any residents wishing to speak to items not on the
agenda. None came forward.
3. RECOGNITION OF WILDLIFE RESCUE EFFORTS BY CITIZENS OF
ALLEN
Director of Parks and Recreation, Tim Dentler gave a brief overview of the rescue
of an injured duck from a pond along the City of Allen hike and bike trail. The
three young men, Shawn Gill, Sean Lerker, and Mitchell Akins were credited with
identifying the injured fowl, calling for assistance, and waiting until help for the
duck arrived. Each participant was presented with a certificate and pass to the
Rodenbaugh Natatorium as a token of the City of Allen's appreciation for their
efforts.
4. APPROVE MINUTES FROM APRIL 11, 2005 REGULAR MEETING
MOTION: Cheryl Lawson moved to accept the minutes from April 11, 2005
Regular Meeting as presented. Gary Moore seconded, and the
Motion carried 7 for, 0 against.
5. APPROVE UPDATES TO THE WORK PLAN
Tim Dentler reported Gary Moore and Mary Fritsche had both put considerable
energy and time into the suggestions and updating of the Work Plan. Following a
brief discussion, the following Motion was presented:
MOTION: Joey Herald moved to approve the updates to the Parks and
Recreation Work Plan as written. Todd McIntosh seconded, and the
Motion carried 7 for, 0 against.
6. ITEMS FOR BOARD MEMBERS DISCUSSION
Cheryl Lawson: complimented staff on the park tour (May 7) and indicated she
was "spreading the word" about the impending Grand Opening of the skate park.
Mary Fritsche: enjoyed the tour as well.
Todd McIntosh: felt the tour was very worth while.
Vicki Wester: felt the tour provided new enthusiasm and awareness for her as a
Board Member.

IJoey Herald: inquired about the progress on Bethany Lakes Park Playground.
Tim Dentler reported that the June 13 Parks and Recreation Board Meeting would
involve a public meeting for the residents of the Spring Meadow subdivision
regarding the design of the neighborhood park located in that subdivision. Tim
indicated that we would like to start the meeting at 6:30pm, conduct the Park
Board business, and have the public meeting as near 7pm as possible.
7. WORK PLAN — GOAL 7.A — FOLLOW UP FROM PARK TOUR
This item was addressed during the "Items for Board Members Discussion"
8. OTHER BUSINESS
STAFF UPDATES
Grand Opening Plans for Allen Station Park, Phase II:
Lon Smeby, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation gave an overview
of the activities expected to take place at the June 4, 2005 Grand Opening
event. Lori also reported that this particular segment of Allen Station Park
will be known as "The Edge @ Allen Station Park" Clark Condon
Associates will be bringing a large contingency of their staff from Houston
for the event and have volunteered them to give tours of the facility, as well
as sponsor a portion of the associated cost. The event is expected to be
held from 10am until 2pm that day with food vendors, sporting goods
vendors, and DJ services on hand. Anthony Hill verified that Ms. Jackie
Chase (currently employed at the Joe Farmer Recreation Center) has been
hired to oversee the Youth Center.
Chase Oaks Golf Course Improvements
Bryan Rauscher gave a brief overview of the improvements being made to
Chase Oaks, and what might be expected in the future. Currently, contracts
have been let on the #11 bridge renovations, bridge re -decking, erosion
repair, as well as the cart path repair. Other improvements will involve
extensive landscape renovations to the facility Matt McComb, Park
Planner designed the landscaping renovations in-house, and staff will be
implementing those improvements.
Capital Improvement Projects
Tim provided a CIP Progress Report as of May 2005, along with a map of
the City of Allen highlighting the projects. Tim indicated that the Board
may begin to expect this report on a regular basis to help keep them abreast
of the projects. These projects are under the Capital Projects and Grants
Division of the Parks Department.

Texas Recreation and Parks Society (TRAPS) request for information
Lori Smeby requested all Board members consider what would be
important to them regarding their membership in TRAPS and consider
emailing her with that information.
Calendar
All Board members were encouraged to attend as many of these events as
possible.
9. ADJOURN
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8p.m.
