3. APPROVE MINUTES FROM NOVEMBER 12, 2007 REGULAR MEETING
MOTION: Cheryl Lawson moved to accept the minutes from November 12, 2007
Regular Park Board Meeting as prepared and presented. Libby Jones
seconded, and the Motion carried 7 for, 0 against.
4. REVIEW AND RECOMMENDATION OF INTER -LOCAL AGREEMENT
WITH ALLEN INDEPENENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
Tim Dentler, Director of Parks and Recreation reported that this agreement had been
prepared for City Council approval at their January 22, 2008 meeting. Due to some
anticipated changes in the agreement, this item has been postponed until later this year.
Some of the changes that are anticipated involve the actual scheduling of facility usage.
There will likely be an additional agreement in the future that may provide for City of
Allen funding of facility upgrades belonging to Allen Independent School District in
exchange for co -usage of those facilities. Tim called for questions from the Board
regarding this agreement, and none were received.
5. REPORT ON UV SYSTEM FOR THE DON RODENBAUGH NATATORIUM
Brian Bristow, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation reported the approval by City
Council to move forward with the purchase and installation of an ultraviolet light
disinfection system at the Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium. Brian reported that the Allen
Community Development Corporation had approved funding of $60,000 which after
bidding, only allowed for two systems, rather than the three that had been proposed.
The competition pool and the leisure pool will have this system installed during the
week of February 25 - March 2. This system will allow for much less usage of the
chlorine and other chemicals currently being used in these two areas of the facility
The spa/hot tub will continue to use the current program of chlorine and other
chemicals. Brian reported considerable damage that has been done to the facility due to
airborne chemicals arising from usage of chlorine. It is the hope of staff that the
eye/skin irritants for users as well as excessive damage to the facility will be greatly
diminished.
Brian also reported that each of the Parks facilities will be closing for one week of the
year to allow for deep cleaning, painting, etc. The Natatorium is scheduled to close the
week of February 25 - March 2. The Joe Farmer Recreation Center will be closed the
week of January 21-27
