HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - Parks and Recreation Board - 2012 - 08/13 - RegularParks and Recreation Board of Directors Present: Todd McIntosh, Chau Libby Jones, Vice -Chair Tricia Losavio, Secretary Tony Airhart Tom Cowart Bob Burgess Paul Davidson Joey Herald, Council Member -Board Liaison City Staff: Tim Dentler, Director, Parks and Recreation Department Brian Bristow, Assistant Director, Parks and Recreation Department Lori Smeby, Assistant Director, Parks and Recreation Department Jennifer Robinson, Senior Administrative Assistant, Parks and Recreation Came Cessna, Recreation Services Manager Zach Francis, Park Superintendant, Facilities Services Jeff Holt, Golf Services Manager Matt McComb, Landscape Architect Brandy Rentz, Marketing Manager Kim Spearman, Park Superintendant, Site Services 1) Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present With a quorum of the Parks and Recreation Board present, Chair McIntosh called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m on Monday, August 13, 2012, in the Community Room of the Allen Municipal Court and Parks and Recreation Administration Building at 301 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas. 2) Approve Minutes of the May 14, 2012 Meeting Motion: Upon a motion by Member Losavio and a second by Member Airhart, the Parks and Recreation Board voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed to :l approve the minutes from the May 14, 2012, meeting. The motion carried. Parks and Recreation Board Minutes August 13, 2012 Page 2 3) Approve Senior Committee Recommendations Chair McIntosh turned the floor over to Member Burgess for presentation of the nominees The nominees presented were Phyllis Bronder, Dottie Gandy, Mary Walker, and Linda Warren Motion: Upon a motion by Member Airhart and a second by Member Jones, the Board voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed to accept the nominations for appointment to the Senior Advisory Committee. The motion carred 4) Introduction of Parks and Recreation Staff Zach Francis, Park Supenntendant, Facilities Services 5) Allen USA Report Lon Smeby, Parks and Recreation Assistant Director, updated the Board that the event was well attended with attendance of upwards of 89,000 people Entertainment included Disney Live with Brandon Mychal Smith on both the Commumtv and Main Stage, as well as Random Axis and the Bengals on the Main Stage. Activities included Cabela's Zone, Kid's Zone, a cool zone misting tent sponsored by Allen Convention and Visitors Bureau and one of the largest firework shows in North Texas. 6) Park Project Updates City of Allen Landscape Architect, Matt McComb provided the board updates on several park projects. Day Springs Nature Preserve is complete and a ribbon cutting will be planned in the near future. The Morgan Crossing main pavilion and two smaller pavilions could possibly start construction as eariv as the end of August Additional trail segments have been added to both Cumberland Crossing Trail and Cottonwood Creek Trail. Mr. McComb also shared with the board that Exchange Parkway median project should be complete around the end of September. The Molsen Farm project has been postponed after presentation to City Council following the last Parks Board meeting. The Rugby Park project is again moving forward and a master plan is being developed at this time. 7) Golf Course Renovation Update Jeff Holt, Golf Services Manager shared with the board the progress on the course renovation including pictures of the construction Brandy Rentz, Marketing Manager distributed the press release announcing the new name of the golf course as The Courses at Watters Creek. In addition, she shared with the Board the process that staff working with the consultant under went to arrive at the new name. 8) Items of Interest (Board announcements regarding local civic and ehantable events, meetings. %imdraisers, and axvrds.) Parks and Recreation Board Minutes August 13, 2012 i Page 3 a) Tim Deader, Parks and Recreation Director, thanked Chair McIntosh for his years of service with the Parks Board and announced this would be the last meeting for Chair McIntosh b) Community Calendar c) Next Parks and Recreation Board Meeting — November 12, 2012 at 7:00 p m 9) Adjourn Todd McIntosh, Chair, Parks and Recreation Board Motion: Upon a motion by Board Member Airhart and a second by Board Member Jones, the Board voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the meeting.
