CALL TO ORDER Vice Chair Deb Sielert called the meeting to order at 6:08 p.m. 2. CITIZENS COMMENTS There was no citizens present wishing to speak at this time. 3. APPROVED THE MINUTES FROM October 2, 2001 REGULAR CALLED MEETING MOTION: Lisa Ellnch moved to accept the Minutes from October meeting. Dee Hermigan seconded the motion. The motion carried 6 for, 0 against. 4. PRESENTATION OF CHECK TO ALLEN SYMPHONY All board members presented a check for $20,000. to Allen Symphony members Jack Willis and Griff Moore. 6. Presentation from Allen Civic Ballet Stefanie Best from Allen Civic Ballet requested support from the Allen Arts Alliance to help fund their performances of "Nutcracker" and "Allen Dance Festival" 7. Presentation from Allen Public Library Nancy Goodman requested one thousand dollars for proposed lecture series for the library. 8. Budget Larry Kirk presented the 2001-2002 budget to the board. Public Art 15,000. Art Fest 25,000 Communications/ Promotions 6,000 Summer Sounds 20,000 Sunday Sounds 5,000 Allen Symphony 20,000 Guild 1,500 Schools 3,000 Public Performances 2000 (Ballet, Choir, etc) Dee Hennigan made a motion and it was seconded by Evelyn Dawson to accept the budget as presented. 9. GUILD UPDATE Bill Dillard said that several committees were going strong. Public Art is very active as well as Art in Education. A guild meeting has been set for January 8' before the regular board meeting. Jay Conrad from Allen Arts Alliance Guild/Public Art did extensive research on several artists in the area. Ms. Conrad suggested Sandi Stein from Valley House Galleries as the artist to create a sculpture for the city. Don Horton added that twenty thousand would be needed to create art at gateways into the community. He suggested the board seek out sites and budget for this art. 10. Artsmania Update Tina Daniels reported that Danna Flemons from Artmania would give a detailed report at the December art board meeting. I I 1 11. AD HOC COMMITTEE UPDATES ARTS ALLIANCE/SCHOOL LIAISON—Lauren Jones and Cindy Kaleta The guild is pursuing many opportunities with the school district and the board will be updated in future meetings. Lauren Jones suggested an "Art Drive" to help out area schools with art supplies that are needed. Specific plans will be discussed at later meetings. FRIENDS OF PARKS AND ART IN ALLEN ---Evelyn Dawson, Don Horton Lisa Ellrich reported that the Friends of the Parks adopted kidmanta project. ART IN PUBLIC PLACES ---Deb Sielert and Cindy Kaleta Nothing to report at this time. Library Oversight and Planning Committee Lisa Ellrich reported that the plans go to City Council for approval next month and the AAAB needs to be involved with the process of planning the new library. This will be a 3 -month commitment. APPOINTMENT OF BOARD MEMBERS TO AD HOC COMMITTEES Dee Hennigan volunteered to be a representative to kidsmania 12. UPDATE/REVIEW ON BOARD PROJECTWISSUES The next Sunday Sounds concert is November 11 with Melody Bell. 13. Other Business Don Horton has spoke to the Art Specialist at Allen High School about her students creating a canvas wall hanging for the Natatorium. He suggested that the winners receive five hundred dollars for first prize and one hundred dollars each for four runners up. Tina Daniels reported that she meets with the Allen Art teachers on a monthly basis and will report back to the board as issues and ideas arise. 14.
