HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - Parks and Recreation Board - 2013 - 11/11 - RegularPARKS AND RECREATION BOARD BOARD MEETING NIINUTES NOVEMBER 11, 2013 Parks and Recreation Board of Directors Present: Tricia Losavio Tony Anhart Larry Holley Rodrigo Vizcaino John Holley Absent: Tom Cowart Paul Davidson Guests: Jason D'Onotrio Rosalind Lewis City Staff: Tim Derider, Director, Parks and Recreation Department Brian Bristow, Assistant Director, Parks and Recreation Department Lori Smeby, Assistant Director, Parks and Recreation Department Jennifer Robinson, Senior Administrative Assistant, Parks and Recreation 1) Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present With a quorum of the Parks and Recreation Board present, Vice -Chair Losavio called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 2013, in the Community Room of the Municipal Court and Parks and Recreation Administration Building at 301 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas. 2) Election of Officers for FY 2012-13 Tricia Losavio, Vice -Chair opened the floor for nominations of Chair, Vice -Chair and Secretary. The following motions were then made. Motion: Upon a motion by Board Member John Holley and a second by Board Member Vizcaino, the Board voted five (5) for and none (0) opposed to reappoint Tony Airhart as Secretary. The motion carried. C 0 1 Parks and Recreation Board Minutes November 11, 2013 Page 2 Motion: Upon a motion by Board Member Vizcaino and a second by Board Member Airhart, the Board voted five (5) for and none (0) opposed to appoint John Holley as Vice -Chair. The motion carried. Motion: Upon a motion by Board Member Airhart and a second by Board Member John Holley, the Board voted five (5) for and none (0) opposed to appoint Tricia Losavio as Chair. The motion carried. 3) Approve Minutes of the August 12, 2013 Meeting Motion: Upon a motion by Member Airhart and a second by Member John Holley the Parks and Recreation Board voted five (5) for and none (0) opposed to approve the minutes from the August 13, 2013, meeting. The motion carried. 4) Fee Review and Make Recommendation to the Allen City Council This item was tabled until further direction can be provided. 5) Board Orientation Mr. Dentler shared with the board that the department was the recent recipient of two Texas Recreation and Park Society awards and was also one of four finalists for the National Recreation and Park Association's prestigious Gold Medal Award. He then reviewed the organizational structure of the department and the role of board members. 6) Allen Parks Foundation Ambassador Program Update Jim Waldbauer, president of the Allen Parks Foundation, gave a quick background on the role of the foundation and then moved on to explam the new Park Ambassador program and how the process works to become an ambassador. 7) Capital Improvement Project Update The Heritage Village Restroom will be a prefabricated structure which will only require the connection of utilities. Artificial Turf will be installed on the four softball fields at Allen Station Park. Four qualified bids were received and evaluated based on a matrix compnsed of over fifty different criteria. The board then reviewed the CDC project calendar and funding structure for 2014. 8) Subcommittee Updates Member John Holley reported that the Senior Advisory Board elections were held. I D Parks and Recreation Board Minutes November 11, 2013 Page 3 8) Items of Interest (Board announcements regarding local civic and charitable events, meetings, fundraisers, and awards.] a) Items for Future Agendas: Allen Event Center Meeting Location, Spring Facility Tour, Joint Meeting with Allen Parks Foundation, Future Capital Improvement Projects, b) Next Parks and Recreation Board Meeting February 10, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. 9) Adjourn Tricia Losavio, Chair, Parks and Recreation Board Motion: Upon a motion by Board Member Larry Holley a second by Board Member John Holley, the Board voted five (5) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the meeting at 8:43pm. The motion carried. These minutes approved on the 10 day of February, 2014. Secretary
